450 Bushmaster AR Pistol in Late Muzzleloader

Hah. Ok. You’re a bow hunter. Sorry about the running doe crack. This thread was about AR pistols during late muzzle. I don’t think there will ever be enough people, hunting that way, willing to brave the cold to significantly impact the population. I typically have half the county to myself...

450 Bushmaster AR Pistol in Late Muzzleloader

Hmm. Iowa plants 12 million acres of corn, Minnesota 7 million, and Missouri 3 million. Iowa also produces more per acre than either of them and also Indiana and Ohio. Iowa’s population density is 55 people per square mile and Illinois is 230 people per square mile. Shall we continue, or do you...

450 Bushmaster AR Pistol in Late Muzzleloader

Yes. Which is why I’m not at all in favor of expanding the rifle allowance. The accuracy and performance of cartridges like 45-70 Govt, 450 Bushmaster, and 350 Legend make accurate shots out to 200 yards a possibility, without the more extreme ranges of the rifles you mention. There’s no need to...

450 Bushmaster AR Pistol in Late Muzzleloader

Yes. Absolutely. Agree with all you said. I don’t have an AR ‘pistol’ and I don’t want one. I do hunt with a 450 Bushmaster rifle. Last season and again this season; one shot - one deer. Not much different than shotgun days, just WAY more accurate. Neither one was more than 150 yards, which I’ve...

450 Bushmaster AR Pistol in Late Muzzleloader

Exactly. Nor do I believe that shotguns made Iowa bucks grow big antlers. *Available nutrition (tens of thousands of acres of corn), *soil chemistry, *open fields where savvy deer can escape and see danger far off (even far exceeding the range of the Evil 450 Bushmaster), *dense woods...

    450 bushmaster accuracy- real world

I can put 5 shots through the same ragged hole at 100 yards- AR with a Bear Creek Arsenal barrel, Hornady Black factory ammo. My 225 grain reloads are slightly better, but I’d rather hunt with factory 250’s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Non res license

We hunt Delaware county. So, he’d have to get a $131 license plus a $266 antlerless only plus $15 habitat? Still pretty steep. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Non res license

I don’t know about this option? My son just moved out of state and he’s bummed that he can’t hunt in Iowa (we’re not spending $650). What is an ‘over-the-counter’ antlerless tag? Where would he get one? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Non res license

I think non resident is only on a lottery system and the cost is over $600 If someone knows of a different way for a non res to get a license, I’d be interested to know about it, but that’s the only option I’ve heard of. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    .22 Recommendations for youth

I love my BL-22. I’ve had it since I was a kid and it still gets more play time than any other .22 rifle What about a Marlin XT-22YR youth? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

350 Legend NOT Legal for Iowa Deer Hunting?

This cartridge didn’t exist last season- it was just introduced at the S.H.O.T. show in January. Winchester had done some test hunts- I assume with permission? -but no one in the general public had access at that time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ideal stand setup

You said “ideal.” I like a box stand near the edge of timber so that you can shoot the field and any trails crossing into the open, but with shooting lanes back into the timber on the other side. A box stand eases the wind and masks movement better. When hunting pressure is on, I often see them...

350 Legend NOT Legal for Iowa Deer Hunting?

When I heard about a .355 dia bullet, I was afraid something like this would happen. I think Winchester was very foolish not to go with a .357 bullet- that would mean better compatibility with existing calibers and no question about legality in states requiring a minimum bore diameter. I’ll...

    Trophy room upgrades

That’s really beautiful. And some super nice bucks! This all started with some significant skill in hunting. Can I ask how you reclaimed the pallet wood? I just took two pallets apart and it took me about an hour each. Those spiral shank nails are a real pain! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why it's illegal to shoot over state water ways

I honestly did not know shooting over a river was illegal. I know shooting shot over roads is legal but shooting single projectiles (handgun, rifle, slugs...) is illegal. I didn’t know about rivers & such. A friend of mine, years ago, may or may not have shot a wounded deer across a river. If...
