That’s the whole point. Pennsylvania doesn’t allow semi-autos and we wouldn’t have to, either. Make the law say “bolt action or single shot” and it’s done- no semi-auto, no pump, no lever (I guess that ship has sailed). Combine that with a 5 round limit and all your fears are addressed. And no...
Well, I don’t think most people would say that using a more effective weapon to kill a deer is unethical. I agree with you and that’s my point. It’s a big part of why I’d like to see Iowa legalize and normalize centerfire rifles.
Those who think that mandating less effective weapons helps...
Still hunt; one step, look... one step, look...
Buddy of mine just shot a nice buck. Then the whole hillside exploded! 20-30 does were bedded down and the boss was walking around checking on the girlfriends. When he pulled the trigger they all jumped up! If they’re not moving, you move. Slowly...
Well, but that “blasting away” is the part I object to. And it would be solved by legislating guns that repeat slower. In that case, range and accuracy are no more problem than they are during muzzle-loader season.
And, yes, I know that’s the culture- a culture I’m not a part of. I stand hunt...
I just don’t think it’s the gun that’s to blame (we 2A people find ourselves saying that a lot, don’t we?).
In the last 35 years I’ve shot several previously wounded deer and every time I silently curse the legislature for saddling us with cumbersome, inaccurate, inadequate deer guns. I’ve...
Not arguing. I agree with you on that. I just wanted to know what you meant by “too much”.
I never minded Pennsylvania’s ‘no autoloaders’ policy when I hunted there- it makes sense. I had the most beautiful Ruger mod 77 in .243... (see, now you went and got me all misty eyed...) but when we...
Why would centerfire rifles be a bad thing?
I understand allowing bows only during bow season- (even though some Dr.s will write a crossbow allowance for anyone with anything more than an ingrown hair on their shoulder).
I understand allowing only ‘primitive’ weapons during certain other...
Now, that makes some sense. Pretending that rifle you just used is a pistol and carrying it during muzzle-loader season... it’s a bit much. To be honest, even a true AR pistol in 450B doesn’t seem like it belongs in any kind of ‘primitive, season.
But if it remains legal, I might have to start...
Well, pistols have been a legal method of take for a while. But I thought we were talking about a handgun like a .357 or .44 revolver or maybe a 10mm long slide.
Who would have thought an AR ‘pistol’ was that kind of pistol? Especially in 450B with an ‘arm brace’?

(Strictly academic interest in this thread since 1) I’ve got as much venison as I can use right now and 2) All the late muzzle bonus tags for the county where I hunt have been gone for a long time.)
So technically, on paper, I could take the stock off and replace it with an arm brace and hunt...
Thank you- and to him also. A little on the safe side is good- was when game still dies quickly out at/near 200 yds.

I just got my dies. Haven’t reloaded a single 450B round yet but that sounds like the ticket. The factory Hornady 250’s are great, so if those perform identically that’s very good. Think he’d give me his recipe?

The main issue seems to be bullet ‘toughness’. Many .452 bullets were designed for an 1890’s cowboy revolver (.45 long colt) and won’t perform well with the greater breech pressures and velocities of the 450B.

Presently no magazine restriction. Don’t count on that continuing forever. Also, the Bushy magazine (5 rounds) has a centered follower rather than the offset follower for .223/5.56. I have very little trouble with mine.

The upper was a stripped upper and I enlarged the ejection port. My buddy bought an upper with an already enlarged port. I don’t remember where I bought mine- Anderson? And I don’t know where he bought his.

This is a budget build and it shoots 1” groups at 200 yards (for me- might be better in the hands of a really good marksman).
Not my first build, but really fun and satisfying to take a deer with a gun that I built. I harvested a deer in Wisconsin and one in Iowa. I wanted a 22” barrel, but...
