Does anyone know how many Government Tags are issued each year?
IA does need this false advertising - it really isn't reality for 95% of the state and that 5% is locked up highly managed land. I talk to people while traveling for work who drool over me being from IA... they dream of coming...
I'm still to the point where this dismal deer heard has me motivated to stick more time and money to improve our farms and hopefully see things turn around. Sure is a kick in the pants seeing all the previous work get wiped out basically by EHD and deer wandering across the fence. Makes me...
I've owned a handful of night scopes, started with ATN thermal and night vision - then a Hogster R35 - then latest is a RIX Storm S3. That scope for $1699 from Midwest Thermal Optics is the best bang for the buck I've seen! I've shot coons and coyotes out to 250 without hesitation. Shot a...
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not? There are places in IA that have strong populations yet. I don't know where you're at, must be one of those. It truly is wild how few there are out west here. Never would've imagined we could get to where we are now, that's the common discussion I have...
I would order trees each spring from the IA DNR Nursery every spring from about 2009-2016. Had nothing but good things to say about them. Haven't used them since though. People are shocked when they see the red oak, sugar maple, and butternut hickory grove of trees I planted and they're now...
Set your own goals - stick to them. Do what makes you happy. I echo what's been said above. Don't be disappointed if you pass a buck, he meets someone else's goal and they shoot him, always bet on the deer and let them go if that's your goal.
Not to take this thread in another direction but I think we as hunters in IA responded correctly with the CWD testing push - until they give a better solution once a positive case is found I'm not participating either. Other states where the scare of CWD was newer and hunters submitted samples...
I shared the story and pics of Hudson's early muzzy buck, thought I'd share the video here also. Really enjoy capturing these memories for the boys. I appreciate all of them I have had with my dad and brother and are captured to rewatch for years. Hope to do the same with the boys for many...
DNR will determine that with the landowner. It's just an option to explore if someone wants to manage does on their land and thinks the standard regulations aren't allowing them to meet their harvest goals.
Yes, Nonresident landowner options are different than resident landowner options. Call Aaron and see if you can get depredation tags as a nonresident land owner and if so, who can fill them. Maybe you can even?
When I drive around Hardwood, I never see more than 2-4 deer in a group. Nothing like what you're seeing in those pics. Thank you for keeping the W. IA deer heard alive. lol
In all seriousness, it is tough when you feel like you need to do some management but can't. That's when they say you...
Thanks! He isn't done yet! He keeps shooting a buck a year old, first was 1.5, then 2.5, then this years was 3.5. He'd like to try to get something a bit older and bigger, he's really enjoying it!
