    We lost one last night!

Sask, Hell Man, MY BACKYARD can be scary at night!! No doubt where you were at, common sense ruled. Even with the GPS, I'd recommend carrying a compass back-up. They can and obviously, DO fail sometimes! A hunting buddy had to take a much more SCENIC route back to the trailhead in Colorado...

    We lost one last night!

Sask, It's a whole different world up there tracking in the wilderness as opposed to the "back 40". No doubt you gave it your best, but common sense must prevail when you're out there in bad conditions and not prepared to spend the night. I say you did the right thing backing off and getting...

    Lost the honey hole.

Man, I feel your pain! Out this way, Farms I have hunted on for years are becoming housing developments faster than I can stomach. I actually have changed my route to work as it almost kills me to see what has happened to some of the best habitat in the entire county become a cul de sac for a...

How well can deer see in the dark...??

Kat, They will definetly SEE you...their eyes are designed primarily for low-light vision and are actually BETTER at night than during the day. I'd suggest either going in REAL early to give any deer that do spook time to settle down before shooting light, or better yet if the situation allows...

    How to hunt cornfields

Danno, Thanks. Yes, both big bucks we kicked up while bird hunting came busting out of standing corn. We were hunting in and around partially harvested fields, sending the dogs into the corn as we walked the outside edges and blocked the ends of the rows. Believe me, if you think a big ol'...

    How to hunt cornfields

Check out my article "When the Food becomes the Cover" in the articles section. The deer DO come out of the corn, but I've found the reason most of us don't seem to see them when hunting the edges is because we're setting up in the wrong way....hunting the corn as if it is the feeding area not...

    Game carts?

It really depends on what you're using it for. For whitetails, you don't need a lot of weight capacity. I've been happy with my Alum-i-Lite cart. Very light weight and portable, folds up and stores easily. Capacity- 250#...plenty. For Elk or that type of larger loads in rougher terrain, I'd...

Are older bucks attracted to older does?

I'm guessing in the animal kingdom it's how ready & receptive a female is as opposed to how "young and attractive' she is. No discrimination involved! Unlike we "superior beings", they look at breeding as the continuation of the species, not just notches on their antlers!!

    ground or tree

Both. Mostly trees while bowhunting, 50/50 when carrying the ol' smokepole. I'm not real crazy about heights...but do what I must to get it done! That being said, my 3 largest bucks (2 gun and 1 bow) ALL were taken from the ground...so WHY do I scare the hell outta myself in trees?? (Why...
