I agree ... unfortunately politics and emotions have more to do with forest management in the northwest than science does today ... throw out the NEPA process that shackles most federal timber sales and the Forest Service might actually be a productive agency again ... the NEPA intent was good...
My point was 20 years ago there was a federal timber harvest program in Montana. Timber sales on federal ground helped reduce beetle outbreaks and large catastrophic wildfires, created good jobs for people in rural communities, and made money for the federal government ... the forest service was...
I'm wondering what made you post this news release Blake?
It is sad that in a short 20 years the Forest Service in Montana, like in many western states, went from having a timber program that addressed insect outbreaks such as mountain pine beetle, provided thousands of jobs for small...

Re: Nonresident Landowners, check out this website
"Friends of Iowa" what a joke! The sad thing is too many people probably won't see the real intent of this group because of the thick layer of crap smeared on the cover ... and the constant waiving of the QDMA flag will likely give it more...
Are you worried this change might affect the number of clients you can bring to Iowa to hunt ... or are you concerned this could impact your gun season "... in Iowa where the firearms season is a ridiculously short five days." ... as you stated in your latest article about Iowa on page 74, par...
I believe deer prefer corn over sorghum but in small foodplots(<5 acres) where deer densities are high I think Milo (or sorghum) is a better choice. Deer usually leave milo alone until fall and really go after it when the weather turns cold. I also think a good stand of milo provides better...

Pheasants Forever is an organization that raises money for wildlife habitat and education. The local chapters get to keep 100% of the money they raise and can spend that money on whatever projects they want to as long as they are for habitat or education. My local chapter is not in a part of...

I second dbltree's advice as to later the better for buckwheat ... I plant it anytime between June through August. I feel May is usually too early.

what ever you do you're not going to want to plant just switch. you'll have the same monoculture you have now.

I couldn't agree more ... diversity is the key to wildlife management.
