    Native Warm Season Grass

Shouldn't be a problem mowing low or having bare spots Landon. Some of the DNR seedings in NW Iowa we mowed low like your yard 3 times the first year and they are some of the best seedings around. Most of the seed thAt has germinated is working on establishing roots right now, not so much...

Got a little bacon in the freezer from the winter

I could get in to that! Dogs and hogs.

    Seeding right after prescribed burn?

Agree with Daver here, but I would tend to drill rather than broadcast by the time you were to burn and spray. Broadcasting is preferred but that seed has to work it's way into the soil, which happens best with freeze/thaw cycle of late winter and early spring. Seed to soil contact is very...

    Is it natives already?

    Timber Stand Improvment

Whenever it will burn Jordan but depends a little on objectives. Fall or later spring burns will help set back invasive suckers/regen if burned when it's got some life above ground. That being said we've already started burning timber at work, taking advantage of conditions while they were good...

    Edge Feathering and bedding areas

Slightly sarcastic, Joe. But I do not like them after years and years of cutting them out of fencelines and prairies. Obviously great wildife value, though and the way they resprout after cutting and produce succulent browse is wonderful for deer. I'm with you, there. It's their aggressive...

    Edge Feathering and bedding areas

Good work, Jordan. What species are the shrubs growing along the edge? I'm a shrub nut, and encourage their growth every chance I get. Also, I'd kill every mullberry in the county, if I could :) Really enjoy your posts.

    Broadcast corn

Needs to be below ground level and have good soil contact. If you try it, disk in and then pack firm.

    Native Warm Season Grass

Perfect time Landon! We held back 40 acres of super diverse wrp seed til now. Keep in mind how your management affects what the prairie looks like. Don't seed the tall natives heavily like skip said, or they will outcompete the forbs no matter what. Also, late spring burns will give grasses...

3 pt Tree Planter for Sale- $300

Check your local county conservation board, bowdude. I know they have one at Roberts creek, I used it last year to help them plant some bareroot seedlings. They do rent some equipment that PF has bought them, I believe.

    Lease rate

I agree with that, to an extent. Big difference between big ag, north of I-80 and the combo farms with poor soils down south, where the mass of leasing is taking place. Sure, there are big money operations in every county but not nearly as many in So. Iowa. Profit margins on 50 CSR vs. 80 CSR...

    Lease rate

It's often the owners that realize they have an asset and can make money. I miss those days, too, and have lost countless acres due to deeper pockets than mine. It's dog eat dog, though and if it came down to it, I'd absolutely lease, as well. Not ideal but that's the reality.

    Frost seeding and cold?

Not this late into winter, in my opinion. Ideally, you'd put down in the morn when it's cold and you'll get a minor thaw in the afternoon, but I still wouldn't hesitate.

    Allamakee CWD Meetings

So you're looking at about a 15 square mile target area? I would think sacrificing 10-12 deer per mile would be worth it if there is any plausible chance at some sort of containment. Might take awhile, but deer naturally disperse and the lesser competition for resources in the "thinned out"...

Sad News Erv Wagner Passed Away

Bought my first bow from Erv a little over 10 years ago and flung many an arrow while he watched and tutored me. He had some great stories to tell. He will be missed.

Right handed but left eye dominant.

Go with a lefty bow. Closing one eye means way less depth perception/peripheral vision - 2 eyes open wins. Will also help him develop some additional dexterity, which will never hurt.
