Wow...yeah you might be a little crazy! haha. I shotgun hunt but I'm also a big archery hunter. Yes it is easier to make the kill shot with a shotgun but getting an opportunity at a mature buck during shotgun is not easy. I actually feel like I have a better opportunity to kill a mature deer...
Why not just shoot a couple does each year to satisfy your hunger to shoot something? That's what I do personally. I personally just love spending time in the timber observing the rut and deer behavior. Holding out for a big one definitely leads to spending more time in the stand. To each...
Not much. Just Neal Smith refuge, Desoto refuge and I guess the corp land around reservoirs. This is largely an issue of western land, not land in Iowa. The DNR is a state wildlife agency which is a completely separate issue.
Yes it is very unfortunate that this is being turned into a partisan issue. I am hopeful that Trump will stick to his word and oppose land sales. Has the government mismanaged some of these lands? Yes, but mismanagement can be corrected. Once they are sold they are lost forever. Keep in mind...
Not sure if anyone here keeps up on the issue of public land sales by the states and the push by some members of congress to transfer federal public land to the states, but this is a very serious issue facing anyone who enjoys the outdoors. If you're unfamiliar with the issue Randy Newberg has...
Initially I would have tried a couple soft contact grunts. Otherwise I would say snort wheeze is my favorite in that situation as well, but it has to be a dominant mature buck in my opinion. I've seen 3.5 olds and younger leave the area when they hear a snort wheeze.
It happens man. You just have to be persistent. Will you get another shot at a 170? Maybe, but they are rare and hard to kill. That's what makes chasing them so exciting. If it makes you feel any better I accidentally hit my release while drawing on a 200 incher at 10 yards. That was 8...
I finally decided to buy a lone wolf climber this year after dragging my feet for several years. I always just dreaded having to find a tree and hang a stand in the dark. That being said, I absolutely love it. Being mobile has completely changed the way I hunt. I just feel free now. I don't...
It's definitely a cat, based on the markings on his ears. but I would say bobcat. I've seen similar bobcats that are light gray and barely have any markings.
I don't. I just try to end with a clean dry barrel. I am not an expert by any means but this is what I always do and my barrel is in great condition. I have never had a hang fire or miss fire. I would think putting any kind of oil in the barrel and then loading powder would be a bad idea. I...
I always run a bore snake through mine twice and then start the normal cleaning process. saves a lot of time. after that just use your ramrod with some patches and solvent followed by some dry patches.
