    Ehd time again?

Here we are - all talking about a voluntary reduction in our harvest of deer due to EHD kills in 2019 and I happen to hear Bob Quinn on WHO's "Big Show" in the last few minutes of the noon hour broadcast TODAY. He stated that a 2019 goal of FBureau is a change to their initiative language...

    Ehd time again?

My guess is no - (1) no that the DNR is intentionally under-reporting and (2) no that everyone who finds a dead deer reports it to the DNR. However, I have been known to be naïve on occasion also..........

    Ehd time again?

I walked up on a doe yesterday who appeared to have died next to a drainage cut. I figured she was a victim of EHD. I got to 10 yrds and she popped up, stumbled 3-4 times, then faced planted into the dirt. I heard her repeat that sequence about 4 or 5 times over the next 20 minutes as I...

    Timber wind damage

"Only 1 course of action in that case - sell the farm (cheap). I might know a guy looking for a farm. ;)" Lol - Nice try "Buddy". :D

    Timber wind damage

Our farm sustained wind damage this am. The worst damage is one 20 acre area of the farm where some of our better white oaks were located. I saw downed trees to some degree throughout most of the farm but not as bad as this 20 acre portion. Some trees are down but many have snapped off tops...

    Ehd time again?

Totally agree - if a fly shits on a yote in Decatur county - there's a chance we may know about it in the current cycle of social media. Lol. Again - not good or bad but definitely different than even 5 yrs ago. Hoping the report MarkF got from the biologist is accurate, for anyone hunting or...

    Switchgrass Strategery

educate me on seeding Feb-Mar vs a late fall seeding (say late Oct-early Nov) ?? (btw - I was planning a very light disc tillage prior to seeding if done this fall)

    Switchgrass Strategery

I apologize for bolting onto this thread but I also have been prepping a 1-2 acre spot for a switch seeding this fall (or winter). So far, I have sprayed a heavy dose mix of GLY twice (mid April and early June). I got a very good kill both times. The only thing coming back now is crabgrass...

    Ehd time again?

I don't mean to sound ignorant but this summer has not been that dry has it (until recent weeks anyway)?? I broadcasted seed on 7/27 and was thankful to get .7" of rain the following day in the area of my farm. Soil moisture the day seeded seemed decent to me. I know it's been a dry since...

HHA adjustable site opinions or feedback??

I shoot an HHA single pin. I hunt with the sight set at 25-27 yards. This range is good out to 35. When practicing, the arrow will hit low past 30 but that simply allows for the animal's chest cavity to drop when loading their legs to bolt. Past 35 (which I rarely shoot when hunting) I...

    Weekend Plots

Planted two small 1/3-1/2 acre plots of brassicas on 7/26 and got the .7" of rain on Sunday so timing was good.

    Weekend Plots

behind schedule and out of town next weekend - so yes hoping to get some acres done tomorrow and early next week.

    Disc versus pto tiller

"No way, no how could I disc many of my plots. Barely enough room to get tractor in there as is. Small plots with lots of turning..." Understand - some of my spots are tight - as is the main trail through my farm. What about 3 pt discs - too light for decent penetration ?? I have been using...

    Disc versus pto tiller

Chip - What would be your recommendation for min disc width / weight for soil penetration.

    Disc versus pto tiller

I am all ears on this topic also as I picked up an older tractor last week and will be choosing between these two tillage options in the future. The points I am considering are listed below: 1) My plot areas are basically a clover/brassica rotation and I bet a tiller would be better for...

    Property

"My 2 cents is a smaller piece would need to have less road frontage and be "connected" some way to other pieces . once the leaves fall off you can basicly rule out first 30 to 50 yrds from the road so piecs shrinks pretty fast . you have to figure access and where are the deer coming from...

    Property

40 acres is what almost immediately popped into my mind also. Be warned though, land ownership is both addicting and expensive. Addicting in that you'll want more - expensive in that you will have even more "needs" regarding equipment once you own the dirt.

    Brassicas and Winter Rye

Don't Rye and Brassicas both harvest nitrogen ?? I planted some Rye with my Brassicas last year and didn't like the results. Things looked good about 14 days after seeding - by mid Sept the Rye was the only thing growing and the Brassicas never did fully develop. I won't make that mistake again.
