Pretty cut up and hilly for the area. There's a lot of high 80s and 90s csr around here so low 80s is on the lower end of ground here. I farm a 160 that's a 98 csr 8 miles from this farm.
A farm a couple miles from home no saled a couple weeks ago at auction. 8900 per acre. Low 80s csr and fairly hilly for our part of the country. Wouldn't have been a bad buy.
You can get swamp white oak acorns from whitewater natives, but I believe you need to order them before fall. I believe they collect what they have orders for instead of just keeping a bunch on hand. I've ordered acorns from them the last 3 years and been happy.
Agree 100%. I have no problems with party hunting and drives if they follow the rules. Unfortunately a couple groups by me are habitual violators but they never seem to get caught.
They are set like you say. The loop should be low enough that a deer's head and neck should go over it so you only have to worry about catching the legs and that is where the stop comes into play. You change the size of loop and how far off of the ground to match the animal you are trying to catch.
In my younger years I trapped a decent amount. Set snares for raccoons beavers and coyotes. Never once caught a deer. In iowa you have to put a stop on your snares to keep the loop from getting smaller than I think a pop can diameter. That is much bigger than a deer leg, so if a deer starts to...
I've been using large rubber feed pans but they fill up with water and then deer don't use them so I think I'm going to stop using them and just plan on covering the sites before season.
You're not alone buddy. Most frustrating part is I'm the only one with food for 5 miles and I know there's a big one within a mile but I swear he's a ghost.
Not exactly what you are asking, but we mount our shacks to old farm running gear. Usually can be had pretty cheap. They have four wheels so very stable. Downside is you can't pull them very fast on the road.
