    public hunting in northeast iowa

    Public Ground can be used by nature lovers too, its not just for hunters. I wear blaze orange anytime Im out in the woods when Hunting season is open, that includes when I am out Squirrel hunting. I do Squirrel hunt when deer season is open, BUT only if no other people are out deer hunting. If...

    What's everyones favorite .22 rifle?

    My favorite is the Marlin 989g Semi Auto with clips, with a deerfield 4x32 wide view scope. Squirrels don't know what hit them. Ive also inherited grandpas Ranger 101.13 bolt action. Nice gun but no scope. As for the gun jamming, I just bought 2 boxes (525 golden bullet value pack) of...

    Late Muzzleloader Tactics

    Stalking bedding areas from downwind is my typical tactic. They are alot harder to spot so some snow would help out alot! Since we dont have snow, a morning hunt over a isolated water source would be excellent

    Low deer numbers

    Shoot the Squirrels!! Seriously, a Squirrel eats like 150 pounds a year. If you shoot them look how many acorns you are saving for the deer! Not to mention Squirrel tastes soooo good!

    Dumb! I really feel for the breeder. As a fish breeder I know how important working with good genetics is.. To loose your most valuable breeder sucks!

    DNR's harvest report chart

    Tuesday night (dec 13th) on my way home from work I looped through one of the areas where I hunt and the deer were out in droves. 3 dozen in a corn field, 1 dozen in a bean field and half a dozen eating grass in somebodys front yard. That was only about 1/4 mile streech of road. The numbers...

    Bow usage during Iowa Shotgun seasons

    I think safety should be up to the hunter in this case as he is the one taking the risk. If you see people are party hunting that land, enter at your own risk.

    Bow usage during Iowa Shotgun seasons

    I could see this working both ways. A bow hunter that already tagged their big buck wants their property to be a santuary during gun season. Since the season is over for them they could even be feeding the deer to keep them on their property. I know several properties that would fit this...
