    Cereal Grains and cover crops

The entire plot is only 1.25 acres: 1/2 acre in clover, 1/2 in your mix and 1/4 acre in brassicas. My cams show deer readilly grazing the cereal grain mix and it is easy to see the clipped tops of the oats and rye, but the pea plants have no evidence of that at all. I am guessing that on average...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Forage peas not being touched This is my third year of planting Dbttree's mix I am wondering if I am the only one that has deer which totally ignore eating lush forage peas? This happens to be in an area where the deer turn their noses to brassicas (which I continue to plant annually anyway)...

    Switchgrass

I was wondering if anybody has heard about this new cultivar of lowland switch (Liberty) recently developed at the University of Nebraska as a bio-fuels grass. Makes me wonder if it is thicker and taller than CIR. Aug. 5, 2014 LINCOLN, Neb. — It's not uncommon for farms to have troublesome...

    Food Plots and Cows

I have had great success with clover and Dbbltree's mix in my smaller plots located in pastures, but I used a solar powered electric fence around them to keepthe cattle at bay (double wire since there was smaller calves in the pasture too). Deer used the plots even with the cattle in the pasture...

    Acorns to Oaks!

Thanks for the herbicide info guys. If anyone is still looking for some DCO acorns, you may want to call Justin Martin of Valparaiso, NE (402-784-6261). He has sold a lot this fall, but it may be worth checking with him anyway.

    Acorns to Oaks!

Is there any difference in using atrazine vs. simazine around new tree plantings? I recently planted about 100 DCO acorns in a clean/vegetation free row next to my new CIR drilled last fall. My thought was that next spring I will spray the entire area with Oust and then the tree row with...

    Switchgrass

Question: We drilled 5#/acre CIR late last fall and did not spray with gly and 4 qts atrazine until April. In late July I sprayed with 2-4D to control giant goldenrod and smartweed. I mowed a week later and it was the only time. Since mowing and spraying the foxtail has gone crazy in some large...

    watering food plots

I posted this on another thread a week ago, but for what it's worth if you have small stream or pond close a used jet pump/generator combo is a fairly inexpensive irrrigation system. <O:p</O:p “We are very dry here in eastern NE as well and last year my farmer friend found a smaller old jet...

    Someone Make it Rain!!

Irrigating your plots on a low budget We are very dry here in eastern NE as well and last year my farmer friend found a smaller old jet pump (110 volt) that he thought came from one of their domestic wells pits. After figuring out it still worked we rigged the intake port with a 15 ft piece of...

Controlling giant goldenrod in newly drilled Switchgrass

Atrazine ?? I was wondering if atrazine would kill this native perennial or not. I have the atrazine and crop oil available, so maybe I'll run a test. Thanks

Controlling giant goldenrod in newly drilled Switchgrass

It appears I have created a very favorable environment for giant goldenrod to thrive in my new 7 acre switchgrass planting. The area was fall sprayed with gly, seed was drilled in late Nov, applied 4-5 qts of atrazine in early April, and sprayed gly again about May 1st. The only green now is a...

    Hunting room/Man Cave/Man Bar

Thanks....I just finsihed that lamp last weekend. I used to make and sell a lot of those, but never kept one for myself. I had been holding onto those big boys for a while and finally found a little spare time for myself..LOL

    Hunting room/Man Cave/Man Bar

Nice man cave's guys. I too have a narrow, but long basement, so I put 3/4" oriented strand board behind the drywall on one end. While my mounts are somewhat crowded, I can hang them anywhere and people aren't running into them. They don't complain about the close quarters either.
