    Alaska trip

Got back from a pretty stellar trip to Alaska. We fished a couple of days. First days water was supposed to be pretty rough where they normally fish Halibut, so captain found an out of the wind spot. Limited on Silver Salmon in just over an hour and 30 minutes. Then went after some Halibut in...

    Lacey Keosauqua Park

We went down a couple of years ago. Nice park. It was not full when we were there, but it was CRAZY hot that weekend.

Why it's illegal to shoot over state water ways

I was always under the impression it had to do with a projectile "skipping" if it hit the water.

    HF716/necked cartridge update

I have yet to hear a reply from anyone I've contacted. I basically started off my email. "I'm pro 2nd Amendment and am happy for the 2A progress in Iowa the last couple of years, but this is not a 2A issue"

    Speed loaders

Cabelas used to be the only ones that had those(that I could find). My Father-in-law and I both have had one for at least 5 years. He's probably had his 10 or more. They do work very well. There look to be some improvements on the latest ones that are out. The one disadvantage that I would...

    Wet, cold and awesome!

Congrats, even better on your own property! My wife was going to hunt(I go along as a pack mule/advisor). She's sat in some tough conditions before, but with a respiratory infection, and the cold and wet that we were to get, she opted not to go out. I'm a die hard, but I'm pretty glad she...

    4 years ago today...

Hard to believe 4 years have gone. I wonder how much hunting ground in Iowa was changed because of the knowledge and sharing that Paul did.

    Womens clothing

My wife has been gradually adding layers of First Lite. It's spendy, but they are a quality product. They have a women's line that is cut specifically for women. As far as a specific cold weather piece, I have a set of First Lite Sanctuary Jacket and bibs for me, and it is too warm to to walk...

    Big One Down-Poached

That sucks. It's incredible how many are out and about a week or two before the season especially in more remote areas. Trespassing laws in Iowa don't help things. The farm I hunt neither the landowner, nor the renter are willing to pursue any action....

    Stolen cameras

I record serial numbers and report them stolen to the county sheriffs dept as well as the manufacturer. If they can't track them down, at least if anyone ever tries to service them they are in the system as stolen.

    Wife’s deer

Congrats to your wife. Hunting should be for the enjoyment of it, not the social media pressure.

A Filled Tag VS Eating one.....

Good words Skip. My pressure to be successful has always been put on myself. I often describe myself as a jack of all trades, master of none. The reality is, I've been blessed with many different God given talents, and I want to honor those talents by being good at whatever I do. This year...

    Done early this year.

Fall has so many things to do! My wife will be happy, as the pup is hers. and bird hunting is what they both really want to be doing.
