What works best for homemade targets?

You can also fill the plastic burlap type bags with plastic sacks from anyone of your favorite big box stores. As posted above they work really well. I have made broadhead targets that work very well also out of cardboard. I put a 2 x 6 on top and bottom with threadstock drilled through each...

    European Mount?

I use the masceration method on all my finds. I usually pull them out when just about all the flesh and hide has rotted off. I then powerwash them out. If anything is left I put them back in the bucket for another couple weeks. When they are completely clean I use regular hydrogen peroxide to...

Nonresident Landowners, check out this website.

Re: Nonresident Landowners, check out this website To all the NR's viewing this thread. Do you really think Iowa is some magical place that bucks grow huge no matter the regulations? The only difference between here and all the other midwestern states is our regulations. Mess with those and...

    Trout in Colorado??

I don't have any Colorado experience, but I have a sister out in Montana and have fished there quite a bit. My advise is to bring a spinning rod and some worms for back up (if allowed). There is nothing better than fly fishing when the fish are biting, but it doesn't always work out that way. I...

    Friction Call Material ?

Thanks for all the input guys. I was wondering about the slate over glass or glass on glass etc. I've never heard one. What does it do to the sound? If you put a slate next to a slate over glass all other things being equal how will the sound be different? I think I will put a order in for...

    Friction Call Material ?

Thanks for the link THA4. Looks like some good stuff for little cost. Has anyone used calkboard or glass from scrap. I would like to know how it is cut and formed to shape to save more on cost and to do it all from scratch. Also, I saw a home made slate call that was a rectangle instead of...

    Friction Call Material ?

For all you guys that have made your own friction calls. (the ones posted on here look great by the way!) What have you used for the slate or glass portion of the call and where did you get it from? (calkboard, reg.glass, etc) Also, how do you cut it into the proper size? I would like to try to...

    Thompson/Center weathershield???

I am looking into getting a new muzzleloader. Does anyone have any info on the weather shield coating on the TC's. I already have a .45 stainless knight and was wondering how the coating compairs to a stainless barrel. Is it just on the outside of the barrel? Does it protect the bore as well...

    Selling Carbon Credits

I sat in on a carbon credit informational meeting. Basically they will pay you for things that you already have done/are doing already. The amounts they pay would never cause anyone to change farming practices, plant habitat etc. They then sell these "credits" to big time polluters who can't...

    lighted nocks

I used them for the first time last year and they are pretty cool. I shot a doe at about thirty yards at the last minuets of shooting time. It looked like I shot her with a laser beam. One word, AWESOME! They also shot excactly the same as my other nocks for my set-up.

    Targets

Another easy and cheap way to make a field tip target is to pack seed bags (the plastic fiber ones) full of plastic grocery store bags. Works just as good as the store bought targets. You do need to double or triple up the bags so they last longer.

    Plant ID? Pics

I only have experience planting dwarf essex rape and purple top turnips. In your second pic the plant on the left looks more like the turnips and the plant on the right more like the rape. That being said I know there are alot of varieties of both and they all look similiar. Looks to be some...

    Final deer rules

[ QUOTE ] Good job in NE Iowa? Because the densities are below 50/square mile? My dad buys timber in NE Iowa. I've gone with him a lot, gotten to walk a lot of ground in NE Iowa. I've seen firsthand around Lansing, Decorah, Waukon, Strawberry Point, i've been all over. Natural oak regeneration...

    Shining

This is a good common sense bill and I hope it gets passed. For those of you who don't see the merits in it you have the blinders on. Oh yea, I love to recreational spotlight but would gladly give it up to help the CO's do their job.
