    European mount

I use the same method, simmer then powerwash. Then I get a couple bottles of hydrogen peroxide, set the scull out on a sunny day and pour it over it several times until it gets nice and white, this keeps the antlers from bleaching out. It really is pretty easy.

    Skull Bleaching?

Putting it in a five gallon bucket full of water also works. Let it soak for a couple months then powerwash it off. I then buy a couple 99 cent bottles of hydrogen peroxide and pour it on the skull over about two days while sitting in the sun. Cheap and easy, good results. Set in in the shade or...

    Crossbows in IA????

Any one else heard of anything about some of the administrators with in the Department of Natural Resources trying to push allowing crossbows for everyone(non-disabled) during archery season? I have heard they are trying to get it written in the administrative rules so it won't be voted on...

    Tree Gradling?

Some trees will have some stored energy and H2O left up in their trunks above your cut. They can leaf out. Only time will tell if your cuts were deep enough and all the way around. As was mentioned earlier, the best way to make sure they are dead is to apply tordon all the way around your cut...

    Switchgrass

Switchgrass comes in a variety of forms, ranging from native ecotypes which barely grow over two feet tall to stuff that grows over eight feet tall and has stems that look like bamboo. Some are very aggressive and some are not. Just know what you are planting before you stick it in the ground...

    Options for 2006?

wjs, Thank-you for soliciting our input. Option #1, would be the best and least controversial solution. Simple economics tells us that if you want to sell more of something lower the price. As far as your cons, This change would directly affect the problem counties because they would sell...

    rifled slugs

I also have a 870 with a rifled barrel. I have been shooting cheap winchester rifled slugs for 10 years out of it with out a single problem. They are tack drivers with iron sights out to 75 yards.

Knight Disc extreme vs Knight Revolution

I just bought a stainless/composite .45 knight disk elite from bass pro shops for 250.00. It's a great shooter and I have no complaints so far. Although some western states (Colorado) require .50 or higher and no scopes for big game. The elite has no iron sights.

    weed control in clover plots?

I was wondering if anyone has used a granular type herbacide for killing grass, etc. in clover food plots (or if they are available). I don't always have access to spraying equipment and it would be nice to be able to take out the old "whirly gig" out and spread some herbicide and fertalizer...

2005 regulations, my opinions, please read.

Right on Teeroy, That is excactly what they would do if proper deer herd management was the main focus. Why not give a free doe tag with every any sex gun tag purchase?..... Politics and money are driving the management decisions.

2005 regulations, my opinions, please read.

One guy can already shoot as many bucks as his group has tags. The shotgun seasons are when the majority of deer hunters are in the woods. It only make sense to do your doe thinning when the most boots are on the ground. To bad common sense deer management has left this state.

    Iowa November Gun Season !

The natural resources commission has not voted on it yet. Call and write your representatives and those on the commission. Tell them what you think about it! The whole thing is nothing but political. I’ll just say that I am extremely disappointed with the DNR’s lack of a back bone on this whole...

    Management Decisions2

I spoke with Mr. Dale Garner Bureau Chief of the Division of Wildlife. He called responding to an e-mail I sent him the other day. (Previous Post). I was impressed that he responded personally. Basically he said that the legislators were backing them into a corner. Telling them (DNR) that...

    Management Decisions

IA ML'r It's not just a money issue. I was just trying to pose a couple simple questions in hope that he would respond. The political side of this has gotten way out of hand, quick knee jerk reactions like those that are occuring are going to end up as a huge problem for future hunters...
