This was last week in our pond in Mahaska County. Not sure what our local officer does but doesn't go out of his way but I assume it's EHD. We had one dead in a bean field last year as well.
Totally get it. A daughter in travel and JH ball dominated my time. I got my beans planted but not sprayed. Trying to get caught up over the next 2 weeks. I didn't get my plot screen planted, trying to work that into the next week.
Since I finally got my password reset, I missed this thread back in March.
A couple of my personal thoughts...
1. The US population in 1990 was 250M in 2020 is was 331M. The amount of land is not increasing.
2. These hunting "reality" companies are sharp. They are well financed speculators...
I sat in the corner of my farm due to wind, which is usually a good in and out spot for our farm. I did not see a deer but I watched one opossum walk through and then 2 more on it's trail a half hour later so I think the opossum rut is on...
So catching up on my last week:
I was no where near...
I think you questions are good ones and I don't see any jealousy in your post at all. I'm going off the original topic but this is how I view the "upper crust" of hunting personalities...
I'm sure plenty of folks on here have talked to Lee, he is so accessible and is willing to share any info...
One thing that is down in our area are yotes. Not sure if that plays a role but it has become a hot ticket for young hunters, I get hit up alot by young guys wanting to get after them. The yote numbers were crazy high about 4-5 years ago but they have slowly came down.
As I get older, I try to watch my sun exposure. I know Huk has a lot of gear but what does everyone wear for sun shirts, hats etc? Long days in a boat and on a tractor make me more cautious as I get ready to hit 50. My mom has to have spots removed every year since she's hit her 70s. Trying to...
I think you could change that to all people tell lies, be it from memory lapse, mis-information, mis-speak, or just flat out lies. The difference, we just don't have millions of people hanging on our every word. As far as an honest president, no one would vote for a truly honest president and...
The thought of losing my parents breaks my heart. My folks are aging and in reality I will not have my folks for too many more years. Mom and dad are way more important than a set of antlers...Just my opinion.
Enjoy the trail cam pics and whatever else you can do as a family. Keep in mind...
We live on our 180. Can't say we'd do anything different but it took us 18 years to put it all together. Patience is the key as well as knowing the generational status of surrounding ground. We bought our first 80 in 1998 from a son who lived 200 miles away. The mother was 70 at that time...
I have done a horizontal rub the last few years in a main travel corridor and I seem to get activity around it quite often. I don't think it draws deer into the area but it seems to pull them to that point as they are walking by and I put my best cell cam there. I also make it a point to start...
Good friends, who own a habitat business have one and they love it. They like it for mowing native grasses because the flail, if properly maintained, does not pull plants out by the roots and of course chops the material better, which allows for better and quicker regrowth.
