    Helping our NR friends

I've tried to help a few guys from the site with maps and directions and they have been very appreciative. I ran into a guy from Minnesota out bird hunting several years ago at a public spot I liked to hit. He wasn't having much luck and seemed like a good guy so I offered to have him come...

    Shoulder Surgery :-(

I can attest to what Bonker said......learning to do things with the "wrong" hand can be quite a trick! Good luck with the surgery, I'm sure you'll be up and running again in no time!

    Shoulder Surgery :-(

I had both of my shoulders scoped years ago. I cranked my bow way down and got sighted in prior to surgery so that it was ready to go once I healed up. As was mentioned, those healing times are on the longer side and someone in otherwise good health should be back to normal much quicker.

    Hoyt/Mathews

I think Fin & Feather in IC sells both but it's been a long time since I've been there so that may have changed. Nice range to try them out on as well.

    Pine Lake Storm

The hail was bad enough to kill livestock and deer in the area. I'm going to head to the area with some hunters that I know.....they have found multiple dead deer in the timbers that they hunt. I'm in Grundy, 15 miles away, and have been cutting down tree limbs all week to keep them off of...

    Mallard nesting tubes...where to buy??

I've done the typical google search, but waneted to know if anyone has a favorite. I've found several that range from $45 to $90 and they all look pretty similar. I may still build my own. Any thoughts?? I'm a little under the gun as the nesting pair is already setting up shop on our pond....

Enough is enough! I finally took the plunge.

You'll love that quad. I sold lots of them at my old job. The EFI is awesome, no more choke to screw with. We added a CDI to one and an air box and you could stand it straight up in the air when you hit the throttle, they have a ton of power....

The Mickey Wildlife Refuge aka- doe sanctuary

Bowmaker, read my comments in this thread. I am in no way joinging any arguement for or against licenses. I speak only to the managment of the property that I have worked long and hard to help achieve. People have thrown us under the bus for being a doe harbor, which we are not, and that is...

The Mickey Wildlife Refuge aka- doe sanctuary

It is managed more intensively than any other piece of ground that I have ever been on in Iowa, and it's of course all done by the letter of the law. The local DNR agent comes out and works with us all the time. He's a really good guy and is very interested in the management plans that we try...

The Mickey Wildlife Refuge aka- doe sanctuary

We have now basically been accused of doing something illegal, I don't see why we should answer. The arguement that started these posts has degraded to a point that answering no longer helps anything, it only prolongs the post. I said that I didn't want to be involved in the resident vs...

The Mickey Wildlife Refuge aka- doe sanctuary

What Mickey has failed to mention, is that groups other than his have killed HUNDREDS of does both on and immediately adjoining his property. You guys can take shots at his personal adjenda, or what you believe it to be, all day. But I promise you, the science being used in the management of...

    Hunter shot.....

Just got a phone call from home. A good friend of mine got shot in the chest today while doing a drive through standing corn. He's alive and in the hospital. The word from the hospital is that the bullet struck his zipper-pull and was slowed enough to not kill him on the spot. Just a...

    Non typical.

If you notice the swelling in his knees and the overall rough look of his body, this old boy is WAY past his prime. He's well over 6 years old. I would'nt be surprised if he's 10+.

    Plagued by 8's

Huntdoc is correct. There is nothing that you can do to greatly change the genetic makeup of your local deer herd. But, anytime you remove a buck, you are freeing up space for other deer to move in. As for shooting 2-3 year olds that don't look good, I'd let them go for a while. We have pics...

    Crappie & Bluegill Limits

Iowa1, I agree with you. The thing to remember is that there are more lakes in one county up here than in the whole state of Iowa. (Not really, but you get what I'm saying...) It would be a much simpler process down there than up here. And you're right, up here it's a pain to figure out...

    Crappie & Bluegill Limits

It's hard to say what one guy can or is willing to clean and eat. When I was a kid, we were camping at Rock Creek for the weekend. Well it didn't take long to figure out that a worm on the bottom meant a bullhead on the hook every cast. These were pretty large bulls, and an old guy camping by...
