What's everybody doing for the weekend?

LIV, any one starts spouting off about ISU we'll take care of 'em. Or at least drink 'em under the table.

    Poaching $$$$$$

I think (but may be wrong) that Iowa's TIP program, Turn In Poachers, does award the informant if a conviction is made.

    Hornady Black powder sabots

I always thought that the holes in the pellets allowed the spark to get further into the charge, thus a quicker and more reliable burn. I may be wrong on this but if I'm right stuffing a plastic rod in there will sure stop the spark travel.

    Tree Stand Portability Question

I carry in all the time and use the strap on steps instead of sticks. Sticks work fine but the strap ons are easier to carry and are extremely quick and quiet to put on.

    0-5

I've now gotten birds for three first timers and I'm still holding empty tags. I have set up on the same bird 5 times and he's outsmarted me every time. Monday morning I was literally within range in the dark when he started gobbling from the roost. I couldn't see him through the leaves but he...

anyone got an answer or opinion?

I agree with what Scott IC said. When a buck drops his antler early, lets say January, it's usuallya direct result of severe stress. The bucks body is saying whoa, we need to settle down and concentrate on surviving before we do anything else. Ever notice an early shed buck sporting antler...

    Stupid Question for Big Timber

If you are able to get the plot in the timber or in a secluded area you will dramatically increase the chances of deer, especially wary bucks, using it during shooting hours. While you obviously have plenty of available food for you local herd, for hunting purposes you could help yourself out.

    Deer Blocks

The mineral, block or loose, actually "soaks" into the soil with the addition of moisture. When they dig up the ground they are getting the minerals out, much like a natural lick. We freshen ours up annually and have some dug out areas that you could almost park a car in. As for the fall in...

    The Crooked Taxidermist

The first deer I harvested of any size was a 130 class ten point. I was thrilled to say the least. I took it to a local guy who I knew and left it at that. Several months later my parents got a phone call from the local sheriff. They had raided his house and found our name in his records and...
