DEAR OTHER MIDWEST DEER STATES….. From: Iowa

I agree that the many younger folks wants a different experience and thanks social media they see what is possible when a state has the proper managment structure in place. Personally I don't see Minnesota adopting a more age freindly management strategy due to CWD and how the DNR here handles...

    Crp changes

We decided to roll with the HELI program but exclude a few acres for food plots. HELI is a continuous program so we are guaranteed to get in and pays more.

    Crp changes

Our rate for the general enrollment went from $85/acre when we applied for reenrollment in Feb to $102/acre under the new program which is slightly higher than our last contract. We are in Northern MO. We looked into the HELI program but there are no food plots allowed.

    Switchgrass

It is bottom ground and was too wet until first week in June.....when I couldn't get down. Forecast isn't promising for any rain so I'm probably going to hold off until next year and just plant a cover crop this year. May change my mind if a good forecast lines up with my schedule.

    Switchgrass

My switch is still in the bag unfortunately. Plant switch now or wait until next winter? My concern with now is that we are now in the dry season in north MO.

Bigger antlers in years with right weather ....

I'm surprised to see MN has a lower ave rainfall than my farms in North MO.

    imox herbicide

I sprayed clover with IMOX, 6 oz/acre along with Nitrosurf, in early April in North MO and am pleased with the results. First time using it.

    Switchgrass

I have not but got the information from Real World Wildlife Products. He just puts the bag of seed in the freezer for a couple weeks then removes it for a week and repeats the process 4-5 times. He goes on to state you can look at the seed tag to see how much dormant seed is there. The...

    Switchgrass

I'm planning to drill switch in late May on fields that will be hit with round up/24-D soon and to spray Simazine when I plant the switch. I know it's best to spray early spring before things get going but wondering if it will still be effective?

Banks Outdoors Blinds now in stock at Buck Hollow

How are Banks at containing scent with the windows closed? I have a couple of Rednecks that I'm able to hunt when the wind is 100% wrong but thought I may try a Banks if they are equally as good at scent containment.

    Plant switchgrass now?

So my plan to frost drill switch went pear shaped when a foot of snow melted and created mud in a 10 day period. Planting into a a field that was beans last year and have been stratifying my switch via the freezer. Is planting now a reasonable plan if I have it hit with gly/atrazine at...

Land value chart over time for iowa...

Interesting article. I'd say we are firmly in the explosive phase on rec ground, at least in the midwest. Many don't even get listed before they are sold. The question is how will rec farms be affected during the recession stage? They did not go down in North MO when everything went pear...

    Switchgrass

I'm planting into bottom field that was in beans last year so it will be quite muddy with the melting snow. Would you guys "frost" seed now or wait until the field dries and drill switch in late April or May? I'm leaning towards plan B so I can meter out the seed better. Either way I'll be...

The fighting they refer to is likely the non-resident landowner tag discussions........

    2018 Farm Bill

FSA told me that rates will likely go up next year. We debated on waiting a year but decided not to roll the dice. My county has the lowest rates in Northern MO. I have a contract expiring in 2024 in another county so hopefully they will up signifcanlty by then.

    Fish stocking recommendations.

With that size pond I'd add some muskies, just for fun.

Shawnee Switch vs. Cave in Rock

I didn't think so either but the customer service person said it was grown in PA.

Shawnee Switch vs. Cave in Rock

What are the thoughts between seed grown in same regional ecotype of the planting versus seed grown out east? A few of the locals have limited inventory and I'd have to confirm where they source. Ernst out east has both CIR and Shawnee.....1/2 the price as well, but no Kanlow. I'm...
