Too early for turnip and radish?

Broadcast on top. I know you have much much experience in plots, but I have tried that. Compared to working up the ground and seeding rye and oats to just broadcasting on top. Much better stand with tilling. Weeds no problem... Ground so dry no weeds. already killed them, tilled them. Only weed...

Too early for turnip and radish?

Update on my EARLY planting of Brassica. Guess I didnt plant it early enough. The dry hit my area begining of Aug. Was wet up until then. I dont have large plots. till them with a walk behind tiller. Two ft wide path. Brass was up but the drought slowed growth way down. In the mean time deer...

    “Post on posts”? Rubbing posts...

You guys are a laugh a minute,,but is a fact. Want to come over and check out my efforts at mock scrapes? Is a fact. Bucks seem to want to scrape where they want, not where I want. They do enjoy rubbing willow I put out though, but that's about it. Most of Iowa is in some stage of drought at the...

    Fall plantings

Funny,,but I am not fooling. Two Septembers I could not get enough precip to grow some Rye. Most of Iowa is dry now. Maybe Sept- will see a change? Maybe not. I already have a failed Brass plot from lack of moisture. I figure I would probably see as many deer without all the sweat and effort of...

    “Post on posts”? Rubbing posts...

I have tried mock scrapes home made licking branches etc so far deer have ignored them. Only thing the bucks like is a willow to rub. I did use the plastic pipe idea to just slip a new willow into. A great idea!

    So much for that target

Heres an idea. Get a large cardboard box. Fill it with layers of cardboard any kind of thickness . Cereal boxes shipping boxes. We all accumulate cardboard. throw in the back a couple old rugs. behind the filled box have a back up maybe an old shot up target or something. I use this for a...

90 seconds of a bad idea....

The P spray for great for ticks. Not so much chiggers. Still get some bites if go into brush. Best cure for chigger bites is scrub down with baking soda on bites. then soap and hot shower. At the end spray bites with itch spray like Benedryl. Do that often. Or shower procedure. The itch and...

Too early for turnip and radish?

I planted mid July. Had lucky good rain to get plots up. Now no rain. None expected rest of Aug! Plots struggling. Looks like a failure. Might have to till again and try oats rye in Sept? If it gets wet again. Which is a big question with 90% of Iowa now in some stage of drought.

Northeast Iowa vs. Southern Iowa deer hunting.....thoughts, ideas and experiences?

Again I will say this. Wherever you hunt in Iowa. Whatever State. The thing that makes hunting and seeing mature animals, if that is your goal,is your neighborhood. If your neighbors hold back on young deer you’ll see older animals. If they shoot anything you’re gonna see young . Simple...

Too early for turnip and radish?

Update from the Dry loneranger. You all knew I’d talk about dry. Well has been unusually wet this Summer my place. Unlike Western Iowa. Good soil moisture. Forecast this week from the NWS was for a rain filled week. Well that forecast kinda fell flat. I got my ground all tilled. No weeds...

    Consentration of d4d

Well I do whip the weeds/grass and clover. I know this helps. Maybe round up not such a great idea. Small areas, so I would just use a pump sprayer. Ounces per gallon is all I could understand.
