    Persimmon trees/seeds

They grow wild on our farm here in mid MO. Being a touch farther to the north I would make sure you get plants or seed stock from others in your area, or those to the north to make sure they are cold hardy enough for your climate zone.

    Switchgrass bedding experiment

Makes for fantastic cover, but you're somewhat stuck with mowing in lieu of burning to maintain that stand. Or perhaps get creative with your firebreaks :)

    New switchgrass

Definitely, as long as you have a good seed bed (bare soil). Would help to lightly scratch up the surface before you pack in. Yes, to spray ahead of time if you can.

    Rest easy Phil...This one stings

Amen! His football stories at Louisiana Tech are legendary. Stopping to limit out on squirrels before coming to football practice. Started ahead of Terry Bradshaw. He was that good.. Quit to make more time for hunting.

    New switchgrass

June is 100% the way to go with switchgrass. 100x better results than frost seeding IMO. These new RC varieties will keep pace with most weeds. I'm not big on monoculture stands unless purpose is for screening. Only caveat to herbicide use would be areas with heavy foxtail pressure...

    Plant ID

Indian Hemp / Dogbane. Perennial that's here and there in our fields as well. Related in the milkweed family. Has a milky poisonous substance on the inside. Can see when you cut, mow it. Not much eats it for this reason.

    Genesis 5 no till drill

I think this drill is a great value. Only downside of the cultipacker is you may have a more inconsistent stand due to uniform packing wheel height. Individual packing wheels like the G series would allow it to follow the ground better. Should be less of an issue if predominantly...

    Lightweight hunting pants suggestions

I know this is an old thread but I hunted early season last year in a pair of gray Mountain Khaki pants. Comfortable and durable. Paired with the new Sitka Cover lightweight hoodie for the top and it worked quite well..

    Clover

100% fall seed. Clover is a cool season plant. You're in the tail end of the cool season and at the start of the warm season, I would not plant any cool season plant right now. Shoot for mid-August and plant with a cereal grain. Can mix in annuals in like Crimson, Berseem into your...

    Clover

As long as rye has made it to the boot stage (grain head inside flag leaf), mowing should pretty well terminate it. Emergence (before pollinating) will also mow kill.

    Clover

I used winter wheat this time around. But you'll get a cleaner stand (a few less broadleaves) with cereal rye. It's allelopathic qualities are real, and IMO the result is a touch better. Rye also grows a larger root mass than wheat, which I also think helps weed suppression, and allow the...

    Clover

Definitely. These fall droughts are getting old fast.. Will either leave as is, or integrate some form of no til (drill) or min till disturbance (Roll through with disc straight - 0 degrees) where I interseed a cereal and/or brassicas. Will see how it looks come August.

    Clover

May 15th, 2025 It's almost cheating how good of a clover stand you get the following spring, after fall seeding with a cereal grain.. Also went back through and frost seeded in February. If it stays this good, may keep this field through the fall. Decisions..

    New Toy - Workmaster 75

Looked at Deere 5075e / Case 75A / NH Workmaster 75. No Kubota (good brand ..but the orange is just too obnoxious). Already had a front grapple and 4,000 lb 48" forks in skid steer attachment from our 50 HP LS. Made the Deere cost too much trying to trade in all the front implements to...

    Herbicide Basics

Call your local Ag Services, see what they recommend (local farmers are using) for your area. Ex: Thistle is rare around me, but ragweed, foxtail are much more prevalent.
