    Mobile blind possibility

I couldn't copy the link on my phone, but there is a fixer-upper wagon/cart on the Schoeblen sp? site in Riverside, IA, for only $250. It looks like it needs tires, etc, but if you are looking to build a "cart blind"...this would be a good start IMO. It's listed on FB Marketplace.

    Been there!! :)

    Fun day at the farm

Great day, congrats!! One word of advice...if you haven't already done so, please strongly consider caging those new fruit trees. I speak from experience. :) A non-caged tree is pretty much a lost cause IMO.

Things that make me go Hmmmmm....Land Prices

Just my opinion, but that piece has some cool elements but also potentially terrible boundary headaches, depending on neighbors. It is listed fairly high, IMO, but it is one that I wouldn't be surprised to see actually sell for much less $$. Time will tell. There have been properties listed...

    Timber Reserve Bill SF219

This is the handiwork of the FB...they want local FARMERS to own the land, ALL of the land. They are even against Iowa residents owning land in counties where they do not reside. OK, alrighty...let's get it on FB. We should raise prices in "the city" for all of the "country bumpkins FB...

    Ag fencing

If you do use wooden fence posts...try not to whack them with the tractor bucket when you are around them. :)

    Timber burn

The canopy is fairly open in this area, as we have done TSI (about 12+ years ago) and then did a relatively light timber harvest last year. I need to go back through though and the few ironwoods that remain. That brought on more MFR than I want in this area. I want it thick there, but not...

    Timber burn

No, but my son had already scoured the area previously. We are also going to burn a section of our CRP with the hopes of finding a shed, or two. But the wind was not right for that yesterday. Instead, we burned two other small sections, each about an acre, without incident. Lots of people...

    Timber burn

I only took one pic, but we pulled off a nice timber burn yesterday. We used leaf blowers to make fire breaks and otherwise used creekbed dropoffs to contain it. Where the timber met the field on one side, we ran the tiller down the edge of field. Everything went smoothly. This pic is the...

    Walnut

Aaaahhhh yes, good idea. FWIW, I see roughly 2" thick slabs of about that length for sale at times for several hundred dollars on up to a couple thousand dollars apiece. That log would probably yield 8 to 10+ such slabs. You would need an extra wide sawmill though. :) But that is a great...

    Burning corn residue?

Agree with JNR...that guy gets it! :) But I will add that in my experience, if you are relying on a local farmer to later plant your corn...they hate working burned ground. That is from a limited sample size, 2 different farmers, but I once burned off some stalks in preparation for spring...

    Walnut

My understanding of veneer trees would cause me to say that I don't think you have one there. Hopefully I am wrong though. "Yard" trees, or really any walnut growing out in the "open" are not likely to be veneer quality because of things that can be seen in this pic, lower limbs being evident...

    Roadkill

Just a FWIW...I never knew that there was a connection between road salt and deer being attracted to ditches. Huh! But I can see it as possible.

    Ag fencing

Maybe...I had a young man, who I believe lives somewhere around Riverside, IA, put some woven wire fence up for me at my farm. Most, maybe all, of my work that he performed was 2 years ago now, but I think he is still doing that type of work "around". Just because I don't want to put someone...

    Slime in Tractor Tires

Just an additional FWIW FYI...my punctures came from the stalks in a cut cornfield that I was mowing off one late winter day. I am very grateful to NOT have very many locust (thorn) trees on my place, so I have never had to deal with the thorns that others have. I really don't know if the way...

    Slime in Tractor Tires

Not slime, but I have successfully plugged punctures in front tractor tires 3 or 4 times now with the sticky, rubber plugs. They have held up fine for several years now, no slow leaks at all. FWIW.

    Missouri Survey on Non-Resident Hunting

As someone else suggested...you could cut the number of tags by 50% and then double the price and you would be revenue neutral.

    Missouri Survey on Non-Resident Hunting

Specific to the bolded section above. IMO, where I think Iowa and Missouri could differ is that Iowa has such a small percentage of their landscape that is top end deer habitat. So even with fewer people going for the tags here, etc, there is A LOT less area in Iowa that is really good v. MO...

    Missouri Survey on Non-Resident Hunting

If I am looking Letemgrow's charts correctly, as depicted in post #46, there is a very steep drop in permits issued to firearm R's from 2017 (854K) to 2021 (777K). Why such a large drop? Is that a signal that MO R's are losing access?

    Missouri Survey on Non-Resident Hunting

Just my opinion...if NR tags were not limited in Iowa to the extent that they are now, access for residents would get far worse overnight than what it is right now...and it ain't great now. Also, some NR's have decided to sell, or move here, due to the growing number of years it takes to get a...
