    Problem with family

Some good advice here. I know how you feel though. My dad introduced me to hunting/fishing but I introduced him to bowhunting. He loves it. Since he has a bad heart he needs to ride his ATV to his blind which is located in my best spot. Problem is he pays no attention to the wind, scent...

    New property question

Hey All, I just got permission to hunt the 144 acres pictured below. Any thoughts on stand or blind placement? First pic is a higher overhead view for reference. Second pic is a closeup of the property.

off topic question for anyone from Cedar Rapids

My house along the Missouri river in SD has been completely flooded for 2 months now and will stay that way for who knows how long. The housing area that I live in has 56 homes of which only 2 are not under water. (the big, fancy houses in the back are not part of ours). Someone was telling me...

    Iowa resident deer info

Where can I find general resident information on deer hunting in Iowa such as dates, how many doe tags can I get, over the counter, etc? I went to Iowa DNR but didn't find what I was looking for.

Becoming an Iowan the hard way!

All the insurance rumors are untrue and we have heard a bunch. Our insurance agent verified this although he did say FEMA takes a long time to cover losses. Here is my house three days ago when they were still letting people down there. The National Guard has it blocked off now. The river...

Becoming an Iowan the hard way!

Just a few days ago I was thinking about setting out some trail cams soon. I have a nice chunk of timber along the Missouri river that I hunt near Elk Point, SD where I spotted a bonifide 180+ NT last season. Then the news started coming in that the dams along the river are full and the...

Oh no! I got a Bushnell Trophy cam for Christmas!

After reading Scott's post on his and others disappointment in the Bushnell Trophy cam I decided to stay away from it. Well I got one for Christmas and sure enough I had one of the "affected" units based on Bushnell's website. I decided to take a few pix first before I did the firmware...

    Food sources in the timber

You don't need to be right in the food source. They have to be bedding in the timber somewhere. Position yourself between their bedding area and their food source.

    Anyone still using homebrews?

Great info dbltree. I learned some things that I never thought of before. Thanks. jjohnson made an interesting point in another thread. His cams are set to video. He said you would be surprised what you miss by setting the cams to take pictures only. Thoughts?

    Poachers and Trespassers!

You have to gain a reputation of being more crazy than they are. "Hunt coyotes" when shotgun season starts. One land owner in Plymouth County started firing rounds from a rifle at two guys that were clearly trespassing. His intent wasn't to shoot them, just scare them. It appears to have...
