I’d like to get a few small Concordia trees, or maybe some acorns. Dbltree and I planted a few over 10 years ago. Mine were mowed down and killed.
Thought I’d post here to help keep up with this thread. Thanks!
Might be a good chance to drop a few trees to funnel deer where you want them to travel. Dbltree was a master at this and there should plenty of information on how he did this.
I’d
Some interesting and sensible thoughts are being presented.
Not mentioned, but I think reducing use of cross bows and rifles is a worthy additions to the list.
Also, addressing EHD is huge!
Just curious after reading the comments up to now….
How many deer are killed in the first couple of weeks of the season?
How many deer are killed in January?
How many deer are killed by non-resident landowners?
Would you approve of preventing the use of crossbows and/or rifles?
Name 2 things you would change, prevent, start, or stop, to improve the Iowa hunting or wildlife resource.
Skip discussed a lot of things in his podcast. What issues have the most potential for improvement, in your opinion? Thanks in advance.
I enjoyed the podcast. Iowa is special. Good to see people realizing that. I’m a non-resident who’s had a little property since 2006. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have excellent neighbors and make great friends.
Your comments on Missouri habitat quality and the potential there, reminded me of a comment by a close Iowa friend. He probably knows as much about whitetails as anyone in the state. He said if the rules were changed in Missouri, they would have the biggest bucks in the country.
Your post probably makes too much sense to be approved. At least you’re thinking out of the box a bit. This new decision causes some issues for a couple of friends in Iowa, one a R and the other a NR. Neither had any warning of the new rules.
