    Walker’s 2022 Turkey Season Thread (Updated 5/13)

Fantastic! Congrats on a great year so far!

    SF581 IT AIN'T DEAD YET

I emailed Rozenboom expressing my concerns even though it's futile at the moment. Drew, The reason I wrote the bill is because I believe the deer population in some parts of Iowa is out of control. Right now there are 40 deer carcasses visible from the road on Highway 163 between Oskaloosa and...

    Turkey tag?

Shouldn't be. For gun hunting you can pick either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, AND 4th - or you can get two 4th season tags. At least that's the way it has been in the past and I don't recall anything changing like that with turkey regulations.

    And so it begins......again

I sure would like to hunt it every year but if I spend 300k on land out of state I will know before buying what that state's rules and regulations say. If I don't like it, I would look elsewhere. No one is making people buy in Iowa. Non-residents know what they are getting into when they buy...

    HSB 609 Hunting turkey with a .410

Dumb. If a 4 year old wants (more like if a parent wants their 4 year old) to shoot a turkey they can shoot a 3d target with a bb gun until they are actually ready.

Food plot in CRP on permission farm

Thanks guys! The only plots I've done have been small clover plots in timber openings so I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right and not getting the landowner in trouble.

Food plot in CRP on permission farm

I have a permission farm that has CRP and I was wondering what I need to do in order to get "permission" to put in a food plot? Do I need to just get the OK from the landowner? Need to work through the FSA office? Or is there something else I need to do?

    Boot gaiter recommendations

I'm contemplating buying some boot gaiters and I'm interested on hearing which ones you like or don't like. They would mainly be for pheasant hunting and shed hunting around here. Any recommendations?

    Timber Stand Improvment

I watched this last night and it was great info as always. Thanks for sharing! Will there be longer/more in depth videos in the future?

    Clover

How often do you guys frost seed into existing clover plots? I have a couple plots that are 1/4 acre or less that I've fall planted and then frost seeded the following year. Is it beneficial to keep frost seeding/over seeding some every year or just in thin areas?

    HSB 610 Nonresident Landowner Tags

Here is another of his responses. Looks like he favors out of state investors and it would be on the honor system. Sounds like a great, well thought out plan... Andrew, I have had numerous sportsman over the years say they would never invest in Iowa under current laws. Their reason is always...

    Timber Stand Improvment

I appreciate all the info! The question about how many acres you could cut in a day was just to give us a ballpark on how many acres we could do this year with the time we can put towards it - not really to see how quickly we could cut an acre. I've done a fair amount of cutting but mainly...

    Timber Stand Improvment

My Dad owns about 40 acres and I'd guess only 20 acres would be eligible (the rest consists of cedars). We are more interested in wildlife habitat improvement than logging but we will want to free up walnuts where applicable. We're looking to free up walnuts, open up the canopy a bit for oak...
