    Cash rent farmer

Pretty sure it does count but maybe not for 5-7 years of straight alfalfa. I had a farm in Lucas a few years back and had broke out some ground to farm it. Wanted to get crop history going and was going to put some of it back into CRP when eligible. Was HEL ground, and they wanted me to rotate...

    Kansas general question?

I've had a few farms along the Eastern tier of the state. T Max hit it on the head. If you want to tree stand hunt like the midwest, stick to no further West than central part of the state and more East tier. Just like anywhere, access and neighbors are key. Big downfall I have seen is amount of...

    Land prices / insane!!!

Big part of it, IMO. I said this a while back in this thread....... ""Another thing I don't think gets taken into consideration much when people see high prices is the 40% (give or take) of inflation and reduced value of the dollar. A $3500-4000/acre farm a few years ago is now $4900-5600 farm...

    Game feeders

I have a couple All Season 2500lb. bulk feeders in Kansas and they work pretty well. I also have a couple redneck 500lb feeders that are decent, but get chewed on because the tubs are plastic. I would go all steel construction if you plan to have it a while.

    Transplants

Snail, I've never transplanted without root ball. Are the size you a pulling out and transplanting without root ball say knee height and smaller? I normally transplant waist height with small root ball but would like to try your method of pulling them out and transplanting. What would you guess...

A $3500-4000/acre farm a few years ago is now $4900-5600 farm. Same dirt, not really worth a whole lot more money but the number is...

    Land prices / insane!!!

I agree these prices are bonkers. Even in surrounding states to Iowa, low inventory and plenty of buyers yet it seems for good rec farms. However, going on a guided hunt to shoot an animal vs. buying a farm, improving the habitat, and killing a big deer off your own farm has a much different...

    Chainsaw Advice

If you already have a 261 I would get a second one of those for the work you are talking. Awesome power to weight ratio. They're kinda spendy but will last a long time if treated right. Keep an eye on marketplace. I just picked up a second one that was nearly brand new and got it for $450 with a...

Cost of a shoulder mount in IA?

With the cost of supplies and time invested to mount a deer in todays world, a $400 mount cannot be very good. Like everything, you get what you pay for.
