    $ FROM HUSH?

The 2006-2007 HUSH fund was about $10,000 short. Meaning, the DNR had to chip in an additional 10K to cover what they paid to lockers. I'm unsure how 2007-2008 ended.

    Sub-Committee Meeting on HF 2052

If the FB wants this to pass, they really don't understand deer management as we've always thought. Just like Kansas experienced, this is a backdoor for all kinds of outfitting and NR leasing/purchasing.... which all leads to exploding deer populations and no access for the rest of us. I...

    Honest Question......

Limb, My opinion you've done a great job of addressing how doubling the NR tags will effect the population- large increases in many areas- see SE Iowa. We also need to address the DNR's need for more revenue, which is part of the reason the DNR wants this increase. It's time that resident...

    Antlerless bucks!

Reports of many sheds being found in NE Iowa.

    OVERKILL ????

There was a similar post a few weeks ago. The counties with the 5000+ antlerless tags have one major problem- ACCESS, or lack of it. Many farms have been purchased or leased for rack hunting. Few people understand the time and commitment it takes to maintain a healthy herd on a decent size...

    Traditional Archery

Practice at different times with each, with different mind sets. When I combine the two, I've found myself snap-shooting the compound, which is a bad habit. Make sure you practice from the treestand with your recurve before hunting, getting that longer recurve to shoot at a downward angle can...

    Antlerless Quota

[ QUOTE ] I'm not sure that 49,000 would make a difference... [/ QUOTE ] Unlimited tags won't help now... the access is gone. Residents and NR have bought most the prime hunting ground in VB Co. and SE Iowa. They kill their bucks.... some harvest a few does... and then run home to show...

    Nonresident Landowner Changes?

Even if Cory and BestofIowa are not the same person: [ QUOTE ] In Iowa I have no rights being a landowner. Because of the drawing system, I have to choose bow, shotgun or muzzleloader and in the last 5 years I've got a liscece to shoot a buck about every other year. I just paid for a bow...

    Turkey Jerky?

30 frozen days is a general guideline...since you are not technically cooking the meat...it's a precaution similar to issues with chicken. Since the weather is turning warm, my 2 spring birds usually end up being frozen for the summer, dried right about Oct. 1st, and very tasty in deer camp.

    Turkey Jerky?

All my turkey meat becomes jerky. Use any flavor you like- I typically use Hi-Mountain dry cure. Make sure you have frozen the meat for at least 30 days because you do not want to dry as much as deer/beef. This kills any bacteria. Slice cross muscle, otherwise it's too chewy to pull apart...

    Cold effect on fruit buds?

[ QUOTE ] Big pear tree here all in bloom...and 19-22 degrees forecast every nite for the next few days...not good. [/ QUOTE ] 1040AM in Des Moines had an Iowa State Forester on this morning. The stage that most trees in southern Iowa are currently in- damage occurs to fruit buds at 23...

    Shining

Dbltree, Thanks for the sharing the information from Rep. Whitaker. Most folks do not realize the extent of the problem in SE Iowa. I'm sick of finding or hearing about literally dozens of poached deer in our area. I would support a ban limited to only the hard horn time of year, but a 'year'...

    More poacher problems

Dbltree, I agree with you. Our CO's cannot even drive all the blacktop roads in their areas of coverage in one day, let alone sort out and pursue all the shining calls. A compromise law- no shining anytime a day/night during hard horn months- September thru January.
