    Photographing your trophy

Not what I'm saying at all, brother. The only magazine I'm concerned about is one of many supported by those who would put an end to hunting all together. Us old-timers fought many battles back in the seventies relating to just this sort of thing. Those people have nothing better to do than...

    Photographing your trophy

Really enjoy seeing the great bucks being taken and congrats to each and all on your success. However, I feel obligated as a member of our brotherhood to post this article taken from Nov, 2010 Bowhunter Magazine. There are correct and incorrect ways to photograph your archery animal. You only...

    Peek rut?

Here in North Central Iowa (25 miles from MN), for decades I have banked on these dates for "The Rut". November 5th through November 19th with it peaking the 12th-14th. Week to ten days prior the 5th..."Pre-Rut". After the 19th..."Post Rut". I have heard and read about a secondary rut where the...

    little help

I'm with ya. It's happened to me a handful of times since '73 and only once did I not wait till daylight to search. I don't recall ever having a gutshot on an a/m hunt. The one time I did go back out it was November 16, '77 when it had begun to snow prior to my sticking this young buck at around...

    little help

An hour is not long enough to wait on a hit like that. Even a straight-up gut shot in these temperatures requires a minimum of 6 hours wait. Near or below freezing... a minimum of 4 hours. Believe me. It's worth the wait. From your description of events, odds are that deer is not dead. Next time...

    Iowa WMA's

No. It will however list public recreational areas by county, provide a detailed transportation map for each county, outdoor opportunities and amenities (whether hunting is allowed or not) and the names and contact information for the county conservation board, state DNR officers, wildlife...

    Arrow question

I've used GT Traditional 3555 for the past 4 years and have no complaints. I have found + .003 to be much more consistent than the + .006. In addition, the factory blems are rabbit sticks. I won't try them again. The 3555 are 8.6 gr per inch. The 5575 are 9.6 gr per inch. I shoot a 150gr head...

Hope I'm not too old to be new

Welcome to the brotherhood. There is a club there in CR who have their range in Toddville. It's a haul from up here but we've made the trip and like the course. You and your boys can benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience of those in the club. They have a camping area there as well...
