Off topic, maybe controversial but a lot of fun & excitement!!!!

There will be no debates. For "safety" the questions will be given to each candidate to answer to a camera. No spontaneous questions or rebuttals will be allowed. I feel sorry for Biden. I watched my uncle descend into dementia and it was so frustrating for him. The new Trump campaign ad...

    Rough score on this guy?

Hell of a buck but the shrink from losing velvet is big. I'd save your score guess till he sheds and you get a pic. Definitely a sweaty palm buck though!!

    Alfalfa

As a former cattle feeder and dairy farmer, I grew alfalfa for most of my life. Starting in the 90's, a little pest called a potato leafhopper showed up. We had to spray insecticide every crop or the little buggers would suck the juice out of the plant, turn it yellow so it quit growing, and if...

    Fawn Survival Study

Fried Spam and bacon sandwich? Sounds fantastic! Will have to try it at the cabin in 2022 when we will finally be released from virus lockdown. I would also add fried onions and a slice of cheese. And Mayo with a slice of tomato and lettuce on crisp, toasted Texas toast. Damn, drool on my...

Off topic, maybe controversial but a lot of fun & excitement!!!!

Bill Clinton also signed the "Financial Modernization Act" in 1999, which allowed the wall street banks to create the housing bubble and derivatives and merge their customer service division with the financial division. This allowed the banks to use customer money to play the markets. Turned...

Turning existing plots into clover plots.

I don't know where you are located but I'll share my experience here way up north. I thought the frosty berseem would be the cat's meow for a interim crop between rye and brassicas. I tried frost seeding it for 2 years right next to medium red clover for a test. Frosty berseem was almost a...

I have the hooeyman. No complaints at all. The battery has enough charge that I usually get tired before it does.

No till drill but poor results

Just one more FYI. The optimum time to plant rye is different from brassicas by about a month. Sept. 1 is perfect for rye, but not for brassicas. They will grow, but don't have time to get full growth if planted that late.

No till drill but poor results

FYI. My food plot rotation is half the plot winter rye and half the plot brassicas. Frost seed red clover in March after the brassicas or if you don't get that done, drill oats. Mow the red clover/oats once or twice in the summer and kill it with R'up beginning of August. Drill rye end of...

No till drill but poor results

Long time no-tiller here, both as a farmer and food plotter. The grass that is growing back is proof that you didn't get the sod killed completely. It's either bromegrass or bluegrass or both as near as I can tell from your pics. Completely killing old established sod is very tough to do the same...

Finding dead deer - mortality rates & reasons

Six dead fawns and one dead buck this spring. Clayton county. Talked to DNR biologist and he expected high fawn mortality from starvation. From Feb. 3rd till middle of March, I don't know how a deer would've found anything but twigs to chew on. Was a good shed year tho., but don't know how...

    Pollinator mix

I've been involved with Pheasants Forever for over 20 yrs. and our chapter has planted 1000's of acres of CRP of all kinds. A few years ago we started refusing to plant any seed that wasn't bought through PF's seed program. We ran into some "bargain" seed that landowners were buying and hiring...

Complete novice need help withfood plots

Be sure to check the seed descriptions for frost seeding. Red clover frost seeds the best, hands down. The white clovers MAY frost seed fine but some are not recommended. I have never had red clover fail, but have had some whites not do so good. That said, white clover is great deer feed, but...

    Tree planting advice

You're overthinking this. I planted trees for years with a forestry service, besides planting hundreds of my own. Calendar date isn't as important as you think. If the frost is out and things are warming up, you can plant, but DON"T mud them in. If it's dry enough to do garden work, you can...

    Story County Iowa Bowhunters

Hope you got some replies and are planning a party! There's nothing like sharing stories face to face instead of a computer. I'll guarantee you if it turns into a "my buck is bigger than yours" group, it won't be fun and won't last. Good luck.
