Dedgeez is building a new house

He MUST be. He keeps making these trips to a lumberyard in DSM every spring. You'd think he would have enough "wood" by now to get started. I guess I guy can never have enough 2 x 4s.

    DNR public ICN meetings

Guy with the IW hat was up here in Calmar. I shoot archery league with him and told him about the meeting. He's a science teacher at MFL and brought his whole science class with him. It was great to have all those kids there. When they were appointing a spokesman, he pointed at me in my IBA...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

It's an auction, so hard to predict price for sure. Everyone expects prices on machinery to soften a bit with corn prices down. Seems to be a lot of drills, but the surge in cover crops might make them hot. If you don't want to repair, and have the coin, new is definitely the best way to go.

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

A lot of drills showing up on the upcoming everitt auction if anyone is interested. Looks like it will be a long time before you can use it, with the weather next week driving the frost down further, if that is possible.:( On the other hand, a lot of time to do repairs if needed. The newer C-IH...

Watch for the huge white flash

on all the satellite pictures of earth. Bonker is going beachcombing in a few days and when he peels off his shirt, the reflection of the sun on his alabaster belly is bound to cause some questions for the Weather Channel folks. Not to mention the tsunami that will form when he jumps in the...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Good point Sligh. I put new disc openers on my 10 ft GP a couple years ago. Right at $1000 for the discs if I remember right. I put them on myself and it's a fair job. As you replace them you will probably find a few bearings that need replaced in hubs and you will want to repack all the...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

My Great Plains 10 ft. is worth more now than it was 10 years ago. I've seen used ones at auction bring 10 grand, and they needed a lot of work before they were ready to use. If I was looking for a food plot drill, I would look for a 8200-8300 JD drill with single disk openers and grass seed...

How many of the master debaters here recently

Would love a IW booth at the classic so you can meet your opponent/buddy face to face? Any chance of that?? I would buy a bunch of beers for the chance to see some of you guys meet in person. No wait, beers are like 8 bucks or something. I would buy a couple beers!!! If you came to the IBA...

    Old seed

Soybeans lose germ much faster than corn, especially if they are seed-coated. Do a test but I wouldn't plant them. The germ test will probably be better conditions than actual field planting so adjust results accordingly.

    Planting apple trees, any advice?

Does anyone know how long grafted apple trees have been commercially available? I have one big old apple tree that produces huge crops every year of large, yellow apples. These apples are NEVER bothered by bugs or disease. They also don't get really good tasting till after a freeze, and then...

Biggest Learning Lessons of the Season?

Biggest lesson for me is to follow Dbltree's foodplot plan to the letter!! I couldn't believe how many more deer I had around.

    Lodging near West Union?

I live one mile from the Shanti in Gunder. The best sandwich ever is their "Sow Melt". Pork burger with bacon, cheese, special sauce, onion rings on Texas toast. The pork is very lean so not a greaseball either. Better than the Gunderburger in my book.
