Tactics for stopping or nailing poachers….

As a guy who has spent many hours doing surveillance...those that are criminals will always find a way to counteract your surveillance. What I'm saying is with every measure there is a countermeasure. You say you have cameras...I have a mask. You catch my plate...I cover my plate . You might...

Things that make me go Hmmmmm....Land Prices

"Great" is in the eye of the beholder. But yes taking risk is 90% of it (or as you say, having some balls).

Things that make me go Hmmmmm....Land Prices

Priorities and discipline if you make enough to afford the initial costs. But then one has to ask, how much debt is worth it when in the end you end up with nothing. As I spend months on ranches that are 10s of thousands of acres..I started to think..how much is enough for one guy? (Latest is...

    Public Land

I appreciate the trail cams on public I hunt. Why I always carry a card reader and I have zero risks and get the data. E-bikes. Lots of Locusts in my area. Haven't found one that takes a thorn well..

    Brush law

When I spray Osage and other trees(mainly locust) and MFR I'm at 2 oz per gallon with a surfactant which I use .5oz per gallon. Never had an issue. The power company looks like they just used glyphosate mixture of some sort cuz it killed everything but Cedars.

    Future of CRP

Please enlighten us since you have time to laugh and save me the extra research. As a guy who owns a company, what handouts do you take? CRP is a government handout to not do work. Could you survive your investment without the handout? Ground is an investment IF u aren't using it as your...

    Future of CRP

150 class: I agree and disagree. If it brings in cash..it's subsidizes your output. Wether by cash rent from a farmer or cash rent from the government. On my cash rent ground the renter is responsible for maintaining soil health. Which a test is required by renter to be provided. Very easily...

    Future of CRP

Great discussion! Main point is that government doesn't subsidize other businesses when a person is terrible at investments. (Please don't chat about the govt bailout loans scams during covid) My thought and Skip kind of brought it up is people that bring in 80 percent+ of income from putting...

No holes really because you can't get blood out of a turnip. If you have seen those properties they get to stay in. I've stayed in better places in 3rd world countries. If you want to eat the food they get to use, sure. I'd rather eat my cattle from the feed lot What I'm saying is most of...

    Future of CRP

Just read your last statement...so you are saying if you can't have the government pay for the ground, you don't want to own ground? The purpose on owning ground for me.. that is 2 folds. 1. Investment because everyone wants it but not all can afford. So it's a commodity. 2. I will always have...

    Future of CRP

Defeats the purpose of the government paying for your land. Maybe the American dream should be paying for what you buy with income you bring in.

    Future of CRP

I think what would be beneficial -- if you get federal funding to not farm, it's automatically public ground. People always state that Iowa has way too little public. This would raise the acres drastically. That would make people think about federal hands in the money pot more.

    Mulching Seedlings

Since using saplings get a PVC pipe to slide over to protect, go out about 1' from saplings to start and just use a glyphosate is what I use. Then if you have the resources... use a pre-emergent granular (preen is normally what I use) But just keeping the competitive grasses down will greatly...
