Spot on... killling a big deer never made anyone a better man. "Life in the woods" was a lot more enjoyable when it was about the hunt and challenge, not showing-off on social media.

Similar situation for me in SE Iowa. Stagnant water the last two summers...found over 20 in two years...predators don't touch most. All the mature deer are gone...the woods are fairly quiet. 2-5 years before decent hunting again (if the tags and seasons are reduced) ??

There's some TV hosts that just lost a few tags if we hold this ruling/standard to all....about time.

This is the only suggestion that will work. Until we take away the tags, or plentiful seasons, we will overkill the sustaining rate of reproduction. Similar story here, 2 years of EHD wiped us out clean. Most activity/chasing by young bucks, first week of November, breeding started around 11/7.

This thread summarizes my season too. A few nice bucks used to survive the poaching, 1st and 2nd shotgun season every year. Now, throw in too many years of late rifle (extended poaching season), and EHD....perfect storm. Haven't seen or got a trail cam pic of a mature buck all year.

What was a full 3 rain event, is now forecasting to 1-1.5 days. Still been June since a really good rain in SE Iowa.

Landowner tag can only be used to 'tag' a deer taken by the landowner/tenant from that specific property. However, a landowner tag can party hunty with other hunters during the shotgun season, on other land. The landowner tag cannot be filled on other properties.

Start hunting SE Iowa, nothing but a few sprinkles the last two days, but you will need irrigation and a deep well.

I'd also like more details ? where do you purchase, how to track, etc. ? If small enough, these could be really handy put into the base of an old shed horn ! This will re-define 'shed trap'.
