"if i don't shoot him - someone else will - so i better shoot him"

Couldn't agree more..... Trophy Hunting is the teenage/college stage of life when we compare how big things are. You have reached full maturity and the end of the journey when you can walk in and out of the timber, without ever firing a bullet or letting an arrow go, and be completely...

    Food plots

37 days since the last rain near me/Burlington...at least that's what the radio said. A month goes fast while waiting, and July was dry too. September is going to be no different. Save your plot money, and buy more stands to hang multiple wind locations around the few remaining water holes.

    Ehd

Same thing in SE Iowa last year....terrible stink during deer season but hoped it was only a few, so many dead the predators could not eat them all, we found many full skeleton's in Feb/March, almost preserved in time. You don't realize how bad the problem is until shed hunting without snow- no...

    Someone Make it Rain!!

Crops are done in SE Iowa, what we have today, is all we will get. Week+ of 95 degrees and will be in the drying stage. Many late planted beans have few pods and not even full canopy.

Now What - Weak Brassica Plot?

Given up on plot decisions until some rain returns, this way if it's really late in the year before more moisture, we won't waste our time. Any one hear if EHD/midge fly is back ? shrinking pools of water and dry creeks again.

Need to rent a tractor near Bonaparte Ia.

If you are planning fall plots, might want to wait and see if this weather pattern holds on into fall with no rain in eastern Iowa. Fall growing season might be really short after germination when rains finally show up.

    Dry?

Missed again this morning other than a little mist. Been 5-6 weeks since a 'good' rain.

    Realtor recomendations

Wrong order, get to know the neighborhood before your buy. Don't expect neighbors to change for your antler lust.

    How many dead deer??

Pretty much the opposite. Us and several neighbors have managed several square miles (1700 acres) with a goal of 25-30 deer per square mile. We were ready for all the late seasons to go away. Bring in EHD, and lost most everything. Entire crop of 2-4 year old bucks gone from EHD and hunting, and...

    How many dead deer??

I need to clarify, the woods are quiet, very little sign. Most bucks, and does were wiped out. Going to be slow for several years, if hunting is reduced.

    Landowner tags

You must not be near my area, bird numbers are way down, probably down 75% from 5-10 years ago. Poor reproduction, egg eaters, and bobcats are taking most.

    How many dead deer??

Same here....nothing left to hunt this coming fall. Time to find a new hobby.

Buck Quality in Iowa over the last 5, 10, 20 years??

Spot on here with the neighbor issue. 1- guys that control a lot of land, 500+ acres, are seeing older deer....or are lucky to have good neighbors with big land control. or my situation 2- the opposite has happened, every 5-80 acres has a hard core bowhunter, or two. The seasons start in...
