Been shotgun hunting for almost 30 years and bow hunting for almost 15. While both sides have their "ethical" arguments I think the bow v. group shotgun hunter thing is ridiculous and doesn't serve deer hunting in general. I find it interesting the post at walking up at wounded deer. Nobody...
Buy doe only for one season and any sex for the other. Just make sure you have a doe tag for every county you hunt. I buy 2nd season doe tags to hunt with my group then either sex for late muzzy when I hunt by myself. We are pretty selective and because I buy multiple tags my group is fine with...
I know I pay property taxes to the center of the road. So while I'd never do anyone physical harm while "hunting" my ditches the local DNR would definitely get a call and I would sure make their hunt extremely difficult if they did not ask permission first.
My son was in our best stand over a food souce yesterday afternoon and had plenty of does but not one buck. This stand has typically had 1-3 bucks show up starting the last weekend in oct. but stopped the last few days. (we can scout from the road and are not always in the stand) Couple of our...
Was spot lighting on my own property last year and a DNR pulled up behind me. He may have thought I was coon hunting because he asked if I had been getting any? I told him I was just checking for buck movement, he was super nice and asked if he could check my vehicle for weapons. He was kind of...
Rattled in a 100" 8 yesterday. Got in my stand around 4:30 and let things settle for about a 1/2 hour. Did a couple of 10-15 sec sequenceswith a couple of short grunts and within a few minutes he came walking in. Did this every 1/2 hour or so with no other results.
No question I think in pockets deer numbers are way down. Some due to hunting some the harder winters we've had. I do think the some take the doe harvest way too far. I personally never want to go back to the Deer numbers we had in the 80's.
I'd say thru the summer I've seen about 1/3 to 1/2 the deer I have the past 3-4 years on my property. I do not harvest many does anyway and the food sources have not really changed so I'm thinking the hard winters are taking its toll. Seeing more and more does with fewer or even without any...
Mine is similar. 135 acres with about 70 timber. Nice river and bluffs and plenty of food source around. I do food plots but the bucks never show up until mid oct. I usually set up cams early aug and have never caught a mature buck in velvet in the past 4-5 years. Works out well for me as...
I won't shoot a doe if the fawns have spots. After that fair game. I'm more about the meat and antlers than population control. I want to have plenty of does on my land when the rut hits. Pretty simple where the does are the bucks are chasin.
I've explained to my kids that animals don't...
I realize that the crime doesn't justify searching this guys home for the cards or anything but maybe he would admit to it to avoid the trouble of tresspassing charges. :drink2:
Ummm...shouldn't the theft be investigated? I'm sorry but giving a guy a break for tresspassing is one thing but the theft of the cards should be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
