    sparring time

I had two bucks going at it just over the ridge from me Saturday AM. I saw one headed that way and he was a young 8, but I really would like to have seen the one he was sparring with. The were cracking them pretty good. Also had the nuisance little basket that was trying to sort me out under my...

    double bull blinds

BuckHusker, Thanks for the tips, I'm just starting to use mine too. What you said makes pretty good sense, all except wanting to watch the game. Do you get the Hawkeyes or Cyclones out there? Not sure who else you would be watching this year if you want to see quality football...Can you say...

    the name game!

Hunt-m-up is a command used with bird dogs a lot and for me a good day is hunting roosters all morning and switching to bowhunting bucks in the afternoon. Then going home just to see if my wife is still there...she has been so far...guess I'm going to have to stay out later... It could also be...

    Rainy day muzzleloading....

Rain is for ducks... I've had OK luck with electrical tape. I usually carry a roll of tape in a good plastic ziploc freezer bag and the bag can be split and taped over the breech if needed. I'm usually more worried about the muzzle.

    Early season bucks

I like to hunt those inside corners of fields that you have to hike aways to get in. If the crops are rotated on the two halves of the field, I like to hunt those edges and points where the beans meet the corn, it seems they often develop travel patterns by using the corn as cover to pop out...

    Season dilemma... Muzzleloader?

I've hunted all the seasons as well and got tired of party hunting during shotgun season. With an inline with a good scope, shotgun might be ok, but there is no method to their madness once they've been pushed from a timber. Plus the time period is so short. I prefer early muzzleloader because...

    More Deer Cam Pics....

    Can't Sleep

I was thinking get your stand up ASAP, get in,get out and wait for a good wind in your favor, but with other bucks running with him...too many eyes and noses...wait until the day you want to hunt him...I like the blind idea, but make yourself very familiar with set-up...Good luck.

    Corn harvest early ????

Rainfall has been all over the place this year in different areas of the state. We were averaging 2"/week in August, but I was just through MO. and SW IA and very dry and combines going strong. High moisture corn for ethanol, and some chopping going on here, but I'll be hunting standing corn...

Any Illinois guys out there, please weigh in on this one...Regarding another topic posted, allow everyone but the cheeseheads, and you Viking fans are marginal at best...Da Bears...Just fanning the flames...

    mechanical broadheads

Those of you that shoot mechanical BH's. Would you say heavier, full-length arrows? I went to 100 grn spitfires with my overdraw rig and flight was very good/right with fieldpoints @ 65# but penetration not that good...I liked everything else, just wondered if takes heavier arrow to drive them...

    Pop up blinds?

M350, is the Carbon Cabin one of those that blows...in the wind...If it's a poor choice I really don't want to know because I just bought one and it's my first blind...Does staking them out really well control some of the movement in the wind? I'm thinking of putting mine in plum thickets for...

    Good Aluminum Stands?

Thought I'd ask if anyone has an aluminum stand they prefer. My brother and I have had several different types and they either have slick platforms, which can be cured, or they pop and creek due to heat/cold/expanding/contracting. We've bolted a piece of mesh to the platforms before, but the...

    Best County for B/C

M350 is right, all the good deer are in SW Iowa Up here at the Northern end of the Loess Hills we have to import bucks to even get the does bred! Then they migrate back south when the rut is over...It's not the license cost it's the trucking that's killing us... But I suppose I'll continue...

    Ladder stands?

Being new to iowawhitetail, I just thought I'd throw this one out there. Besides being limited in height and heavy, what do you think of ladder stands for bow and/or gun? I bought an Ol' Timer 16' kinda late last year and didn't get to hunt from it much, but I sure do like climbing in and out of it.

    Fall bugs

New to iowawhitetail but thought I'd weigh in on this one. Nontypical, I think West Nile has hit Kingsley but not Pierson, so I'm not concerned... I agree with John V, I'm betting more people will die from being shot or falling out of treestands... Having said that I'm going to go lay down, I...
