I love the stiffer penalties but I would like to see it applied to ALL trespassing. I see almost all of my scumbag trespassers in the spring looking for sheds and mushrooms (ie crack cash, meth monies)
Agreed and to add on, back in college I shot an old 130 class 10pt on a great hunt with my dad. Too poor for a shoulder mount and limited time/space living on campus, I left the whole deer there and filled out some "transfer" paperwork for their taxidermist to do a euro. I had used the taxi for...
Well said, and thanks for elaborating. I 100% agree that prioritizing wildlife and habitat, regardless of "who can hunt it", is a huge step over plowing everything under for crops and cattle. Great discussion.
I agree with you 100% but I'm curious. Can you elaborate on the last part there? I know a lot of people (including me) who have had hunting permission on a property their whole lives that then recently sells to someone specifically for hunting and multiple people lose a place to hunt. Sometimes...
I'm livid just hearing your story. Anymore, I don't even leave antlers with my taxidermist who is a very good friend, in case of theft/B&E. Very sorry to hear it...I'd be sick too. And demanding the cost of the replica!
I would wager 95-100% of hunters are fine with crossbows being legal "archery" tackle for those who cannot physically pull 40-50# compounds. The issue I (we) have is with able bodied people who are too lazy and/or do not prioritize actual archery proficiency, flooding the woods with crossbows...
I don't hunting during gun 1 or 2 but had dinner with a buddy in west-central IA last night. His group that typically fills all their tags (15-20) only filled 9 this year between the two shotgun seasons. During archery I felt like the population in southcentral IA where I hunt was maybe just a...
I've had similar experiences with "how did that deer survive that" shots from the neighbors. It kind of takes away the old "I shot this deer because it was limping and certainly wouldn't have survived. I put it out of it's misery so now I'm a hero, please pat me on the back". I've always...
These are spot on. I previously worked for a DNR before moving to IA. For almost a decade I saw how the politicians controlled the agency's decisions to the Nth degree. It was part of the reason I left that state and that job, and pretty disappointing to see it happening here too. Everyone wants...
