    Lessons Learned

Nobody here hasn’t experienced the same, unfortunately it happens. It’s good you care about making ethical shots. A few mistakes I’ve made 1.) not shooting through both lungs 2.) shooting too light of arrows 3.) shooting more draw weight than necessary 4.) not trimming every limb in my shooting...

    2022 Rut vs Previous years??

There seemed to be more movement in October than I expected and I can’t remember things being this slow around Nov 9, ever. I wonder if the full moon and the warm weather sticking around didn’t have some effect? It’s also surprising how long it’s been cold now too. A strange year I think. There...

Deer hunting insight for 2022 first gun season

If the neighbors are pushing, look for a likely escape route. Expect that a mature buck will use his nose to survive. When still hunting, whoever is moving is at a disadvantage.

    All day sits

All day sits suck the life out of me lol. I usually hunt morning, take a break and hunt afternoon/evening. When the monsters are out I’ll sit all day if I can. I grunted in a 170” several years ago, only to miss him. I almost always see big deer around 7:30AM and then again around mid morning...

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Had a 155-160” 4.5 10 pt. walk within 10 yards this morning. When a few does showed up later, a nice 3.5 8 pt. starting chasing them and grunting extremely loud for 5-10 minutes. A couple other small bucks cruised by too. Great show, seems a little early. Bummed my phone/video wasn’t accessible...

Calling, Scent and Everything in Between!

My strategy YMMV Bling calling - no Rattling - no Scents - no Cans - no Grunt - rarely Snort Wheeze - almost never Funnel - yes Trail to doe food or bed- yes Intersection of multiple trails - yes Grunt - if I catch a shooter chasing a doe and she’s not ready, when the chase is over, I’m calling...

    Smokless ml build? /suggestions.

Luke built my 700 SML many years ago. It is insanely accurate. I love not having to clean it and I simply can’t imagine not hunting with it. FWIW, my longest shot is probably 150 yards lol.

    Early Muz Tactics

I don’t have a lot of experience with this season but I’ve taken a couple. I would look for a scrape on the edge of heavy timber next to an area where does feed for an evening hunt. A buck might not step into an open field, but he may come to the edge at dusk.

Experiences with forming “co-ops” to manage for older deer???

My thinking is similar, much easier to identify a very few deer with a lot of potential, share photos and agree to pass until some agreed upon age. It would be awesome if it worked out.
