    Switchgrass Strategery

I posted this on another habitat forum and it was suggested that spraying to kill the competition may well release the WSG that was planted in 2014. Sounds like a great plan to try first. I thought I could mow it in March then start spraying as things green up. I looked but wasn't able...

    Switchgrass Strategery

Thank Sligh, I took notes of your kill cocktail. Plan to mow it labor day then spray at the end of October to prep. I have got everything buy atrazine in my inventory, hopefully the simazine will suffice.

Long farm week & projects!!! Pond, trees & Prize winning bean plot too!!! :)

Very nice and I like the canal idea to tie the ponds together.

    Switchgrass Strategery

Looking for some strategy input on planting switch to encourage bedding within my CRP. The open areas in the picture were planted to WSG's (switch, big and little blue) back in 2014. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to take and there is little evidence of WSG's at this time. Plenty of other...

    Genesis drills- any reviews?

I've been researching them and talked to one of RTP's distributors who was quite knowledgeable. They sell them of course but he doesn't work for RTP which gives me a bit more confidence than a factory guy shilling.. They have some nice features like the calibration tray and you can mix all...

Overgrown Cedars- what to do with them?

I worked with my private land biologist on getting it set up in MO. We sold that farm so we didn't end up doing the project.

Overgrown Cedars- what to do with them?

Missouri offers cost share for this type of project allowing the hiring of a skid loader to pile them up for a good weinie roasting bonfire. Maybe Iowa has a program?

    Drilling into mowed pasture

Thanks guys, worth experimenting if I end up with a drill. However, I won't be getting a big drill so soil conditions will make all the difference.

    Drilling into mowed pasture

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I guess I'll have to experiment and report back......if I buy a drill.

    Drilling into mowed pasture

I"m trying to justify a no till drill for smallish acreage of plots. I've heard of guys having success drilling radishes into clover that has been mowed super short or set back a bit with Gly. Has anyone had success drilling into pasture that has been hayed or mowed real short but not...

    Disc versus pto tiller

Thanks, good to hear it has worked for you Daver, especially considering how dry your area has been. Good feedback.

    Disc versus pto tiller

Great info Sligh. I'm trying to justify why I need to spend big money on a drill and I'm doing a pretty good job of it so far!! HA! Grant Woods claims he doesn't need as much or any fertizlizer with after a few years of his Buffalo System. Do you find the same type of improvents in your...

    Disc versus pto tiller

I agree, but damn are they spendy and I have a small tractor and limited acreage that I plant. That said, I'm trying to justify the cost as I type. Lot of money for these deers, LOL.

    Disc versus pto tiller

I was asking more about the effect on the soil between the two. Lots of talk about how working the soil is detrimental to it's health. Anyone having success with throw and mow in Southern IA/Norther MO? I like the concept but it's so damn dry down there it would likely be a recipe for failure.

    Disc versus pto tiller

I know the best case scenario is some kind of no-till planting but is there any real difference to soil health between running a disc versus tilling just the top couple inches of soil?

    Nancy Kerrigan comes home

Interesting, I almost used exact same combo on my last buck but in the end went with OTS's wall pedestal.

    Brassicas

I'm glad I read this info, thanks for posting! I believe the guy that is spraying for me is using Liberty and I was planning on brassicas 7-10 days after he sprays.
