Interesting week with the big thaw here in central IA. I've been glassing the deer most nights for the past 2-3 weeks. At the start, they were hitting the corn fields en masse but after about 5 inches of snow there wasn't a deer to be found in the fields. I actually suspected that they moved...
I leave mine (Knight original DISC) loaded for 2-3 days during early muzzle. After that I shoot and reload mainly out of paranoia. Only ever had one hang fire and I'm entirely sure it was due to a wet primer. Walked through some tall wet grass and my cloth possibles pouch got damp with primers...
Numbers are down at the friendly confines. I have ceased all doe harvesting. They could walk up to my tree carrying a stew pot, cut up carrots and onions and jump in Bugs Bunny style and they aren't getting an arrow.
Yawn. I like to catch an occasional Midwest Whitetail in Iowa. Old Dan Fitzgerald vids are good b/c he whacked and stacked does like they were the trophy of a lifetime. Can't fake that emotion...either got it or don't.
I view the vote as the majority of taxpaying Iowans forcing the hacks that are in office to apply our money in a way that we see fit. An eventual tax increase is inevitable so rather than spending it all on a bunch of worthless entitlement programs that are counterproductive, they'll be forced...
Ken,
What is your desire or thoughts on the ability of hunter, tracker and dog to cross a neighbor's fence in pursuit of a wounded deer as it relates to Iowa's current, and rather unique law that allows a hunter to pursue wounded game on another's property without a weapon?
I have the same deal in one of the chunks I hunt. We need to build ourselves some makeshift plank bridges for them to walk across. Then we're good either way. :D
Awesome story!! I had fun just reading that. The pic of the full strut gobbler could be a painting. You have more guts than me taking the time to get pics at that range. Congrats on one heckuva neat hunt and bird. :way:
That is interesting. Also kinda begs the question why wait 150+ years to decide this is the time to make a stand? Not saying it's wrong necessarily, just wondering.
