In regard to the sack popping, I had the same thing on a buck in late January on his neck. Swelled up the size of a volleyball and was pussing. It popped after two weeks and he lived until a car hit him in the fall.
What kind of broadheads were you using? It appears the entry side may very well be above the spine. My other thought would be a potential broadhead failure. I've seen multiple deer shot with bows and bullets that did not deflate the lungs. In fact my buddy just shot a doe with a 12 gauge...
Duck for cover because this one is going to get heated real quick. It may be safer to wear deer fur in the woods during gun season than ask that specific question in this specific forum. No answer will surprise me here.....
Iowa is the benefactor of a very weak schedule this year. IF IOWA beats OSU in the championship game then they are deserving of a bid. My prediction will be an OSU route and I hate OSU. Good to see the Hawkeyes doing well though, hopefully the run continues. FYI watch out for Nebraska.....
Note that requiring permission to enter curbs fence hunting, your crazy road hunting ditches, dog running yotes, etc.
Indiana's law reads this way. The flip side is a landowner not allowing you to recover a deer that can be seen is then in trouble for wanton waste.
I've never been denied...

Must obtain permission to track a deer across property lines.
First offense 125.00

It sounds like one blade hooked a vertabrae and pulled the arrow up.
The deer reacting to the shot will also throw an arrow. I have video of a buddy hitting the buck I killed square in the shoulder totally broadside and got zero penetration with a fixed blade shooting 70 pounds at 30 yards...
Light rain is best right now because deer are actively checking scrapes awaiting the first does. Rain makes them refresh their scent. Once the rut hits all bets are off.
Check every blown down. I'd guess him to stop in the tall grass or be as close to water as he could be. Very rarely have I encountered a deer that was hit bad and stopped in mature open timber. They usually go to the thickest tallest nastiest stuff they can find.
Have you thought about...
If he was quartering to you and got anywhere in the actual body he's 99.99% dead and it's just a matter of time. I killed a buck in 2011 that we know was gut shot low on Nov 11th(talked to the neighbor and the wound was visible). Entry and exit hole were about 8 inches apart. I killed him on...
The only hit that will slow a deer down is guts and liver. Either he whirled on your shot or the excitement jarred your memory. The only other thing would be a deflection off a branch to redirect the arrow back.
If you blasted a shoulder and hit the off leg you would have knocked him on his...
