I hunt several farms around my farm also. Both bow and shotgun. Never had a problem gaining access, but then I grew up on a farm in the area. Quite a different story for someone with no ties to the area trying to hunt shotgun. First or second season!
So you are saying there are farms near you that don't get hunted shotgun? Pretty hard to gain respect as a nonresident hunter in a small or large community. Like I said; it's next to impossible to get into a shotgun group where I live even as a resident. I can't imagine many groups reaching out...
I've been deer hunting eastern Iowa for over 50 yrs. You couldn't get into a shotgun party unless you married into the family or grandfathered in from generations. I don't know of a single farm in my county you could gain permission my knocking. Now maybe a nonresident landowner has leverage!
Think about how much you would be willing to pay should you lose the land to someone else. Then sign the lease before somebody beats you to it. How much great hunting ground do you have to hunt? If she is talking lease; someone will be leasing it!
The problem we have in Iowa is the majority of deer hunters aren't that passionate about deer hunting to fear the results of regulation changes. Most have seen many changes in the last decade or so, and it hasn't really affected their hunting that much. Sure the liberal doe tags lowered the...
That's easy according to you. Ask permission to coyote hunt! God knows that farmers hate coyotes! I haven't spoken to a farmer in 30 yrs. who have lost livestock directly to coyotes. Then of course where you live the farmers want everything killed!
What area in Iowa is this? I'm sure many who belong on this forum would love to get permission from these farmers. It must be between Dubuque and Davenport! You'd be doing everyone a favor!
I beg to differ. I've farmed my whole life on the same farm. Every farmer in my area has a deep concern about their land and everything on it. That includes who is on the land and what they are doing. I guess maybe you aren't that close to my farm! Sorry you have such a skewed out look on...
I don't know of any farmers who allow coyote hunting during deer season. Wait if you don't live on the land; you probably don't care. I keep forgetting about the recreational landowners! Where about is your land? I believe my farm is real close to where you describe in eastern Iowa.
So your only agenda is to keep stirring a pot you don't even care about. Tell me; do you own farm land in Iowa? Or just a liberal who believes everybody is entitled to do as they please where they please.
Then why don't you use the pistol platform?? And if you live next to Illinois and Wisconsin you could easily hunt rifle seasons in those states. Better yet; move there and avoid non-resident fees! The majority of Iowa land is private. It will be interesting how many landowners will be fine with...
Next we'll pass a bill for 25 lb. bows for wimpy kids!! No wait; they can probably use a crossbow now! Anyone who can't handle a 20 ga. automatic slug gun should probably look at other outdoor activities. Or maybe eating some Wheaties for breakfast.
Now that we've opened it up to all centerfires; who will bother carrying a shotgun? Since we've finally progressed to centerfire rifles; we'll need to adjust our seasons so more hunters can enjoy them. Maybe the week of Thanksgiving so we can still hunt with family when our kids come home!
I never thought back in 1970 while carrying my Thompson Center during shotgun season there would be two separate muzzleloader seasons either! And many years you couldn't even shoot a buck with a gun if you filled your tag with the bow!
I'm not buying the argument of straight wall rifles allowing small sized shooters to hunt. I've raised my sons and daughters to shoot and hunt with both bows and shotguns. I'm taking my 12 yr. old grandson turkey hunting Saturday. Should he not be using turkey loads?? There was never a problem...
More than 70 deer were put down on March 28th at a Hazelton deer farm after CWD was found in December. Chronic wasting disease was detected in a dead deer at the farm back in December. The IA DNR released a statement this week that no more deer tested positive in Clayton County after the special...
