I love big 8's, especially when they are pot-bellied and live in the big woods!

    Minnesota Bear Hunting

I've killed about 15 bears, all over bait and in MN. Never had a problem with it not being exciting...or for that matter, ethical. As with any hunting it can be very easy at times. How many times have you heard some guy brag that he smokes cigs on stand, spits snuff, pee's, and kills a buck...

    Hook

These big woods deer mature at a different pace and age then the Iowa prairie deer. I'm with you all the way Karre, looked like a 3 last year, a nice 4 this year. But just coming into his own and will look real good next year. Think what this deer will look like at 7 1/2 yrs old.

    Giving me Fits

All up to you! However, I think he's a young deer...maybe 4 or 5. I think I'd let him slide one more season and see if he dont fill out to a solid 5x5. Maybe I'm reading him completely wrong tho.

    Demonizing "Trophy Hunters"

Yea, but that Rump Roast would look pretty funny hanging on the wall.

    Indiana Deer????

When I was at the Indiana State Fair several people showed me pictures of this buck. I didnt hear anything about it being turned loose though and I doubt any state game dept would authorize such a thing. I was told many times this deer is a "world record" at 515 inches. Indiana seemed pretty...

    Right/Permit to Carry

In Minneosta Im pretty sure the only time a bow hunter can carry a sidearm is when hunting bears or during an open firearms deer season. When archery hunting for deer the law states no firearm in possession.

    North Central Minnesota Whitetails, WHEN??

I live pretty close to there and have to say you are going into a great area for big deer (thats why I live there :drink2:) There is a lot of management and passing of young bucks by the locals and the area traditionally produces 3 to 5 B&C deer every year. Obviously I dont know exactly where...

Post a picture of your dog

Here's my little lady. Comes from Cris Riddle in Grinnel, she's out of two of his best pure bred moosgaard German Short Hairs. Great dog! Great family pet and a terrific hunter. We call her Elsie.

    Mass!

The Watusi cattle are pretty cool and for the most part quite docile. The rodeo business have outcrossed brahmer, longhorn and Watusi with great results. You should see what you get when you cross a Watusi with a Mexican fighting bull!!!!

Yes. If you look at enough Whitetails you'll find its not that unusual. Seems to be more common the farther north you go.

    OK! How does this look?

I need to make a correction, there was more then one abnormal point removed, possibly three short stickers. The story of the deer being taken out of season or untagged didnt surface for more then 30 years after the deer was killed. If it would have been entered, it probably would have been...

    OK! How does this look?

The deer was killed in the 50's and it was killed out of season or at least without a license. The antlers were cut off and tossed into a slough, where they stayed for a couple weeks. Sal was meat hunting to feed his family. Eventually he retreived the antlers and a local taxidermist offered to...

    North Dakota Mule Deer Hunting

The area is pretty much just open rolling prairie with an occasional rock outcropping (butte). Good optics will be essential, both bino's and spotting scope with tripod. Get good at finding coulies and draws, practice your belly crawl, watch out for cactus and rattlesnakes, and get real good at...

    OK! How does this look?

After the first attempt to post this failed due to a brain burp, I got it down this time. Heres the Sal Ahrens buck from Minnesota, in replicated form. We just added this one to our Wild Whitetails display. It grosses 223 typical and nets 212 typical.
