Cattail fluff works as well if it's easier for you to find/access.

    Rain perfect for trees

Saw this on another site for grazing exclusion zones and figured if you have any of these cages from the 250 gallon plastic containers they would work really well for caging trees as long as you don't have too many to protect.

    ATV for food plotting

Thanks for the advice guys! The farm is 45 acres of timber in Madison County & I have some creek crossings that will probably be pretty sketchy with a tractor but an atv/utv with a winch should be able to handle. Thinking about maybe building a small bridge to get equipment across, anyone done...

    ATV for food plotting

Hi guys, just bought my first farm and now I'm daydreaming bout all the stuff I wanna do to it. I don't have a tractor or an atv and, according to the wife, my purchasing power is severely limited for the next 10 years.....:D I do have friends and neighbors that I can borrow equipment from in...

    Hay bale blinds for sale

Just in time for turkey season! Have 2 hay bale blinds to sell that were given to me by a friend that works at a hunt club. All he could tell me was they were made by some company in Wisconsin. Similar Redneck blinds retail for $550, make me an offer. Located near Dexter but travel to Adair...

    Oak logs

I'm pretty green when it comes to the timber game and still learning. The district forester I talked with said the timber buyers in SW Iowa use the Nebraska Timber Talk quarterly newsletter as a a guide to know what the market looks like when making their bids, guess I should've mentioned that...

    Iowa Deer Classic

When I left at 5:30 Sat evening I counted 13 deer that grossed over 200 that had been hung on the leaderboards. Based on the 8 or 9 years I've been attending last year was a slightly above average year for antler growth.

    CWD

Any of the smart guys on here correct me if I'm wrong but a prion is just a mis-folded protein and not a living organism so evolutionary forces wouldn't be acting upon it.

    Heaviest deer you've ever killed?

Went and picked my meat up from Zeb's on Saturday and chatted him up about the average weight of the bucks brought into them. He said they generally debone ~70lbs of meat from a buck, they had a handful over 100lbs this year, & their heaviest buck produced 117lbs of meat this year, fyi.

    Heaviest deer you've ever killed?

My 1st season shotgun buck was an old tank, just dwarfed everything else we had hanging on the rack. I removed the inner loins before dropping him off at the locker and they still reported cutting 98lbs of meat off of him. I usually do my own butchering and can't ever remember getting more...

    Possible World Record

My mistake, I assumed Gallatin was on the western side of the Eastern time zone, not the eastern side of Central time. So with the reversion to Standard Time happening right before this, 6am is completely plausible, my apologies to any and all I may have offended by asking a question. And...
