Matt, that is the setup we use at Wildwood Hills Ranch. The bows work great for all sizes of kids, and are easy to maintain. The kevlar backstop does a great job of stopping errant arrows (if not stretched tight). Wish you could come to one of our Bounceback events at the ranch this fall and...
Enjoyed the history report on your buck. Great job of being patient, and waiting til the time was right. He is an awesome buck, and you'll remember that hunt for a long, long time.
Sounds to me like you handled this one pretty well. They'll likely get thumped, but sometimes that's the only thing that will wake them up. Probably going to take more than just this incident, but it's a good start. Hope you get rewarded with that big buck for all your frustrations.
I got to the woods one time, and realized that I didn't bring my boots. It was warm enough, so I headed to my stand in my stocking feet. As long as I avoided the locust thorns, all was well. Weird feeling to hunt without boots - don't try it.
I agree that life is good. And it gets even better at times like this. Congrats to you and your son on a great first deer. He'll never forget that moment.
