    Deer Bedding Inside the Corn

If they're not very pressured, have you guys noticed if they come out of the corn during the day or in the evenings like any other bedding area? Have you ever tried to stalk grassy areas in the middle of corn feeds?

    Long day, fun hunt

Great story Tin Roof. This past year has been limited with opportunities to hunt. But I had one in particular that was extremely fun. It was particularly interesting because the end result had very little to do with the quality of the hunt. Next year, I think my hunting goals will have much more...

    Any Guys Using GoPros?

I have access to a GoPro. When filming hunts, what location for the camera seems to work best? Headband, on the bow or attached to the stake/stand/tree? Any other suggestions would be welcome. I'm hoping to use it on a ground assualt. I want to set up on one of the snow trail(s) leading to a cut...

    Need Input For A Question

My friend spotted a nice mature buck the other night coming out to feed with 3 does and a 2.5 year old buck. It was the last day of shotgun season here in Iowa. Do you think this buck will continue to hang out with these does or do you think this is probably a temporary situation?

Buck Behavior As Rut Is Winding Down

Quick question: As the rut is winding down, will bucks join specific doe family groups and stick with them throughout the winter or will they recoup by themselves. I've got a particular buck in mind who I keep seeing with the same doe family group.

Is This A Strange Deer Behavior

Last night, since my stands were iced up I decided to try a decoy-- with me set up in my ghillie suit in the CRP grass next to the soybean field. What a blast! I was hoping to attract a travelling buck either with the doe decoy or with a number of does that I was hoping that the decoy would...

    Decoy Question

Yesterday my friend and I were on hunts where we had 2 cruising shooter bucks who were just outside of bow range. They were interested in the calls we were using and both stopped and visually investigated where the calls were coming from but because they didn't see another deer they kept moving...

    Carp Fishing Hotspots

I remember growing up and taking a can of corn and heading to the river/lake to have a blast just fighting carp for fun. I know they're pretty much everywhere, but I thought some of you guys might have some ideas for some better than average places in the Ames/Des Moines area. Thanks.

Tips For Setting Up On Water Sources

Any specifics to keep in mind when setting up on water sources? A few quick questions come to mind right away. What type of water sources do you look for? What time of the day do deer tend to frequent them? Do deer leave standing corn to get a drink at this time of year? Are deer bedding closer...

    Deer In Corn

I've noticed a number of deer moving in and out of the cornfields over the last several weeks. It seems like with these temps we've been having, inside the corn would be like a rain forest especially with very little air movement. Do you think they're still bedding in there in light of this or...

    Acorns Dropping

I also noticed a doe feeding in thick green vegetation. I'm sure they're getting alot of their moisure needs met in as succulent of plants as they can find.

    Acorns Dropping

I was out looking around last night and noticed that acorns are already starting to drop. Is this earlier than normal and is it being caused by this lack of moisture? Do you know if it reaches a certain point if the oak trees can retain them into the fall?

    Arrow Trajectory

Thanks for the advice. I think my shooting form is fairly good. I always try to bend at the waist. I do use only a "regular" rangefinder though so I haven't been compensating for the angle involved. I will probably aim a little lower than usual from now on.

    Arrow Trajectory

I noticed that on most of the deer I had shot, the arrow was connecting with the deer higher then I had been aiming. So this spring I took a 3D target out to one of my stands and shot from various distances to see the results. I know I have read several articles about arrow trajectories coming...

    Tactic For A Small Woodlot

I just acquired a small piece of property I can hunt but it looks like it could be a puzzle to figure out exactly how to go about hunting it. It's basically a small woodlot located on fencerow which is bordered by a open ditch on the backside. It faces a large soybean field with the woodlot...

    Fading Camo

I was out scouting the other day and noticed that my camo pants were already really fading bad. I don't hunt huge amounts of times over the season so normally they wouldn't get washed too often over the course of the year. I wash in cold water (using hunting type laundry detergent) and dry on a...

Could You Try To Clarify Something For Me ?

Could you give me your ideas on this statement that I've heard from a couple of guys who were shotgun hunting? It went something like this," The deer seem to still be out in the fields and not concentrated in the woods like they normally are at this time of year. I think it has to do with the...

Coaxing A Buck Out Early Using a Decoy

I was toying with the idea of using a doe decoy together with a bleat call to try to coax a buck out of his bedding area while it is still light out. I've heard from several guys at work that they've seen bucks tailing does. Any one have any thoughts? Or do you think it's too late to bother with...

    Trapping Question

I live just outside of Ames and am trying to get some basic information about trapping. Do any of you know where a person could sell pelts in this area of the state? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
