Up and Comers? Shoot or Pass?

You have to ask yourself this question. Do I want to shoot a 145"-150" class buck or 175"? If the answer 175" then you'll have to pass the three year olds with genetics like those two have. Liv4Rut said it right. Go big or go home. Let em walk.

    New COVERT 8.0 & Bushnell 8.0 Cams ??

Can you lock these to the tree with a python cable or do you just strap them to the tree and hope no one finds them? I've been looking at getting a few myself but want to be able to lock them with a python cable.

    DNR Banning Mineral

How does the wording of this affect trappers. Can trappers bait their traps?

    Pettengill Change up

Transferrable tags of any nature is a BAD idea. I agree with dbltree, I smell a rat. Like Bonker said, non-resident antlerless tags go unsold every year so non-resident family members already have the opportunity to come hunt "with the family".

    Predator Camo

I use fall grey, brown deception, and snow. All work great. I would use brown deception until all the leaves fall. then switch to fall grey, and once the snow flies I use either fall grey or snow depending on the amount of snow, where I'll be hunting and what my backcover is going to be. If...

    DNR Banning Mineral

They wont ban livestock producers from placing mineral out in their pastures. Therefore this law is stupid in the fact that deer will still have access mineral sites. I would bet that mineral sites placed for deer in this State would be less than 1% of the total number of mineral/salt sites...

    Busted!

Not sure if this was previously posted on IW. I couldn't remember seeing it. I found it in The Plain Outdoors paper, volume 3. I picked the paper up at a Casey's general store tonight. You can check it out online at www.plainoutdoors.com in volume 3. You have to wonder...Is getting an Iowa buck...

    Bottom Ground CRP

When I had my ground measured for CP 23 they told me native grass only. All woody vegatation must be controlled. No food plots or trees/shrubs allowed. If I wanted to plant trees/shrubs or do food plots I had to exclude those acres. They said that there was a continous bottom land hardwood...

    Bird buffers?

When I checked into them a few years ago I was told by the FSA that if you enrolled in the upland bird buffer then you couldn't do any other CRP practices inside of that buffer. Meaning that if you did a 150' foot buffer all the way around a field that was 240 acres and that used up 30 acres...

    DNR Banning Mineral

My biggest concern or problem with this legislation is it doesn't address mineral/salt placed for livestock production. How many salt/mineral blocks are place in pastures in Iowa every year. How much timber is pastured in Iowa every year. How many partial blocks are picked up at the end of the...

Are you concerned about income from the tillable ground or are you more concerned with trying to make it a hunting property?

    DNR Banning Mineral

Ok. I propose we ban deer from making scrapes and rubs because all of my trail cameras I have on scrapes during October, November, and December will have 300+ pictures every week of bucks, does, yearling does, and button bucks all coming up and touching and licking the same licking branch. Do...

Would you shot mountain lion in Iowa?

AZHunter, I will agree that hunting out West is not the same as living out there. I am 35 years old. I started elk hunting at age 14. I have spent 2 weeks every year since chasing elk out West with the exception of a few years I was in college. I have been in several Western States from Southern...
