I bought a Petzel that is a 250 lumen, I do not remember the model right now. Has white and red lights. The head "band" is a wire that retracts and makes it easier to stach and not get hung u in pockets. I also have a simple model that has a red lens that flips up and down, it is not as bright...
12000 was with a tree planter. Did another 6-700 by hand. If you can not out plant the deer I would go with cages. I know that I more than likely would not have the time to clean out each tube yearly. Tubes work if you can babysit them. Definitely spray for weed control.
They are starting to drop. I jumped up a little one today while weed eating off some garlic mustard. My neighbor walked up on one about a week ago now.
I have watched two toms for the past couple days come to a field and leave it at the same spot every day. Do I just set a blind and ambush or put out decoys, since in the past there have been some hens in the field and can not be as predictable. If decoying thoughts on what to put out. I have up...
Looking at ordering a Carbon 34 Defiant. My only problem is that I can not find one with a #2 cam, seems like they are not out there right now unless you special order in and nt many people with a 28 draw shoot a 34 inch bow.
Any of you that make your own bow, I have a question. I have six osage 6-7 ft. bolts that I cut 3-4 yrs ago and have been sitting outside leaned up against my porch. Could I still split them into staves and make a bow? I am wondering if they would be to dry and hardened to work into a bow and be...
Check this one out from BassPro. It lets you set up the same way as having a "kickstand", but without the weight of the metal frame. I got one after last season, so I have never used it in the field, and realy like how it feels the few times I went and tried it out in the woods...
Wet aging is a bigger thing farther South where temps never cool enough to age or let deer hang to bleed out, unless you have some kind of cooler. If the temps are right I will let a deer hang for a week. Some of the highest end stakes that are aged are done so in a cooler for 6 months, they...
I have a few family members that are wanting to put in for archery season next year. Can anyone fill me in on the process of applying for tags? Can they apply as a group or is it all individual? How many points is it typically to draw for the very NE Corner of the state (Not sure what the zone...
Anyone use a tree saddle type rig to hunt? I'm looking for ways to make it easier to do hang and hunt style hunts. I usually do not have the time to pre-hang sets, even on the private ground I hunt. If there is anyone that uses this style of hunting I have follow up questions.
I will second the Natural Gear camo. They are behind the times with technical clothing, but the camo works. I have sat in a fence row that was pretty open with 2 ft high grass on the edges. Had a doe and fawn at 5yds and look right through me. They had no idea I was there till the wind swirled.
I guess I shouldn't really complain. I do not have kids, not planning to have any, and my girlfriend knows that I would rather be out hunting than doing pretty much anything else. I guess my biggest hang up is that we are busy this time of year at work, especially with it being wet the whole...
So, we are 13 days into the season and I have not sat once. Between work and other commitments time has been short to enjoy a hunt. I have been thinking today of how I can make the most of my time to get hunting time in and still cover other commitments. I have been thinking of only bow hunting...
Over 8 inches yesterday and last night. Can't even get out to really do any timber work between mud and flood damage. They are predicting the Mississippi to hit 20' here.
At this rate there is going to be a lot of crops left in the fields.
Save yourself a headache and skip the tubes. Way to much work unless you are fully committed to maintaining them. Just keep the deer off of them and they will do what they are designed to do.
I think the liability would be to great. Changes in the weather and UV break down would be issues. I think aluminum is going to be the way to go until some new material comes out that is not cost prohibitive.
