Always make sure to tuck in your shirt during the summer trips and continue to use deep woods off.

    Online plat maps?

Most counties have a GIS map. Some are on Iowa GIS, others are on Beacon. Just spend some time searching for the county you need.

Boss buck is a good looking decoy. Personally I like the flocked decoy. Looks more realistic

    Vacation Time

The biggest challenge this year could be fighting the standing corn. Corn will be taken out later this year and that always makes me second guess every move since you can't see across open fields.

    How low will corn go?

The biggest debtor is the US Government. They can't afford rates to rise very much, if at all.

    How low will corn go?

Beans are a totally different animal due to the world production. Right now guys could lock in break even prices on soybeans for 2015 via buying puts (price floor). Some guys may take advantage of this and plant beans. This would not be a move to make large profits but merely make it through a...

    How low will corn go?

I don't believe you will see corn much below the $3.25/bu mark. Yes there will be cash bids less than that, but that is simply easier than putting a sign on the door saying "we dont have room for your corn" In my opinion the global market for corn supports the $3.25 value. The proteins (Hogs...

    Making "safelines/lifelines"?

I would recommend doing some research on the correct rope to use. You will need a static rope (11mm) and prusic cord (6.5mm). It is imperitive that the prusic is tied correctly as well. They are extremely easy to make and we made 30' sets with 2 prusic cords per rope for around $18/stand. It...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

I guess my main question is should we just leave the rotation the same as last year now since the rye seeded out?

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Due to heavy hunting pressure from other parties on a farm we started the mix on last year, we had decided not to spend the time and money to continue the rotation while others reaped the rewards. That was until about 2 weeks ago when we discovered that the other parties will not be hunting the...

    Trail Cam Locks

We use the cam lock boxes that lag bolt to the tree and then we run a cable around the tree as well. At the end of the day, if somebody wants your camera enough, they will find a way to steal it. All the lock boxes do is make it less convenient to take the camera when a person comes across it.

thoughts on speed vs. Kinetic energy

I actually just switched to a heavier arrow for more KE. Shooting rage broad heads. I'm not a world class archer and I don't shoot a lightning fast bow. Shot placement is obviously key, but why wouldn't you prepare for a possible mistake and equip yourself just in case. If you catch the shoulder...

    Question for NR's

Also when considering the management goals, nobody (Not even QDMA or IDNR)could have possibly predicted the impact of the back to back droughts that brought stress and EHD into play and further degraded the population and herd health. That being said I wish the doe tag quota would have been...

    Question for NR's

I'm an Iowa resident and hunt in SW Iowa. I think there are a couple of things that I feel need to be pointed out. Purely my opinion. 1. Herd numbers. At least in the areas I hunt were very healthy and we were experiencing some of the best rut activity we have ever had while at the same time...
