Whats the action like in western iowa?

Past couple days in SW ia have been extremely slow. I have been sitting all day and it seems like the deer have disappeared. I am hunting the correct wind in a major bedding area. I have seen 2 deer all day

    Decoy scents

I always set up my decoy outside for a month prior to season. First I wash it with HS Scent Free soap and rinse it clean. When using a buck decoy I always use tarsal supreme in a scent bomb.

    what the he**?

The Obama supporters are probably the guys that also think private landowners should let everybody hunt their land because it's their 'duty' to help the less fortunate. Not a single person, by law, has to be charitable. Free enterprise allows a person to gain wealth and keep it for themselves...

    2012 Turkey Mount

He was screaming before I hit him between the eyes with some 5 shot out of a 3 inch 20 guage shell so I figured I would mount him like this to remind me of the still frame in my head.

    Southwest Iowa EHD

I have heard rumors flying around of dead deer all over the area. Avoca, Woodbine, Logan, Beebetown, Oakland, and Carson are the areas I have heard seperate rumors of EHD. Anybody out there that can confirm this? We are checking cameras this weekend and keeping our noses in the air to see if our...

    2012 Turkey Mount

I was expecting more of a half strut gobbling pose. The taxidermist hadn't done one like this so I allowed him to blaze a trail with my bird. It will look good when I put him on the wall so that's all that matters I guess

    2012 Turkey Mount

Here is my 4th season bird. 1 5/8 inch spurs, 11 1/4 inch beard, and 24 pounds. Picture is off my phone so it may not be that clear. Notexactly what I wanted for a mount but it will work nonetheless.

    Record Farm Auction

At this rate, by the time the stock market starts to out perform the return on ag real estate, the real estate will be paid off and profits will be able to be reinvested in the stock market. I'm in the market for a house, but I am not in a hurry to lock in an interest rate because no matter who...

    Record Farm Auction

BJohnson- I too will be in that situation some day (hopefully a long time from now though). If I inherited an unincorporated interest (i.e. an 80 acre field not intertwined) with my siblings acres I will most certainly be going to the bank to use that equity to take a loan on another...

    Record Farm Auction

Just my opinion, but people don't buy lakeshore and make a living off of it. That was my point. Lakeshore is bought for a second home/vacation destination during good economic times, whereas farmland produces an income and grows an existing operation's profit potential. Ag land prices rose...

    Record Farm Auction

Comparing Ag production land and lakeshore property are apples and oranges, but I do agree corn price will drop drastically if we plant 96-98 million acres of corn. Some think that the price could fall below cost of production within the next 3 years. If that occurs, the value of land will go...

    Record Farm Auction

It will come down a little eventually but it will never return to lows seen in the 80's. With the use of corn at an all time high and a growing world population, land will remain a key asset (this relies heavily on ethanol mandates). The main reason for my opinion, they aren't making more land...

    Hunting the rut this year

I believe the best days will be the 4th through the 7th. Unless of course it is upper 70's/80's for highs then it will be the first cold front on or after the 4th. Totally depends on what property you're hunting though. Having said that, I tagged out on the 10th last year with reasonably warm...

    Nobody talkin trash yet?

ISU, according to the Washington Monthly, is a top 75 university. Iowa isn't even in the top 100. Nebraska isn't in the top 200.:drink2:
