Well we jumped head first into the world of native warm season grasses this year when our property qualified for the general crp enrollment. I had to do a little convincing but I think it was the best thing we could do for our property. Since, everything I know about these grasses I learned...
99% of the kids on the Iowa football team are good, hard working kids anyone would be proud to call their sons. Lets not throw the whole team and coaches under the bus because one or possibly a few players made poor decisions. How about we applaude the coach for addressing the situation the...
The USDA announced today that they have accepted 4.3 million out of the 4.8 million acres that were offered into the latest general signup. The final EBI cutoff was 200. Just thought some of you that had applied might want to know what the final EBI cutoff number was. We made it in and are...
I have a crossbow you can use. Its a ten point but other then that I dont know much about it. I have had 2 shoulder surgeries so I had the opportunity to get this crossbow knowing that someday I might be forced to use it because of shoulder issues. Its been shot one time and is basically...
This game is always tough to watch for me. For as much as Iowa should dominate the clones this game is almost always closer then it should be. I say 28-14. Player of the game will be some no name skinny special teams guy that blocks 2 punts!:way: Good luck this hunting season fellas. I will...
What type of EBI scores are you guys coming up with on your properties? Our place had a score of 223. I am thinking this isnt gonna make the cut but I guess you never know. The last general signup in 2006 it took an EBI score of 242 to get in. What do you guys think?
Sorry to hijack your thread but I couldn't resist. Your title caught my attention but I am trying to track down a good used herd 750. I actually might just buy a new one but have been checking consignment sales for a steal.
I am in the market for a 3 pt broadcast spreader for my tractor. I have did some research and I think I have it narrowed down. Anyways, has anyone had any experience broadcast spreading nwsg seed from broadcast spreaders? If so, how did it work for you? Also, I have read a few places that...
Great topic and discussion. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the continious crp program called declining and critical habitat crp that focuses on establishing oak savannas. I am not sure if your involved with this program or not dbltree? If anyone has had experience with...
Thanks for the replies. I am thinking soybeans with winter rye broadcast in the fall sounds good to me. Over time it will be interesting to see if we can change the structure of the soil as we till in the rye each spring. I also was glad to hear sorghum does well in sand. I would like to...
Most of the soil on our property is very sandy. I am talking almost sandbox quality sand. We are putting a majority of the very sandy hills into crp this spring. Has anyone had any success with foodplots in soils like this? We planted a mix of winter rye and triticale last year in one plot...
I would call around to everyone you know that hunts that woods. You could get lucky and either get permission to look around or one of the hunters could happen to come across your buck dead. This just happened to my dad last night. On the way to his stand he came across the buck we were after...
They are successful at what they do. Good for them. They worked hard for everything they have. That bus looks pretty awesome. Not a bad ride to take on hunting trips.
Sask your exactly right. I have no idea why my pictures are so big and why they are out of order. That big 10 is a beast and at the top of our list. The 8 point which is the 3rd picture is the buck that I was talking about being mature but not real impressive.
I would love to see this buck get a pass this year. I am not sure the group I hunt with will be able to pass this guy up but I think he is young and could be a giant someday. What do you guys think?
Sorry for the big picture. I have no idea why that happened. This next buck is a nice 8 point...
Instead of going in circles over minor details I will just say that this was a great discussion that actually brought out some great points. Like others have said I personally hope that I never see the day that the land I own is sold. I plan on leaving it to my kids and hopefully they will...
