    Switchgrass

I know it is a ways off, but never to early to start. I plan on seeding about 4-5 acres of switch this winter. I clipped all the trees off the area this spring, mainly hedge and cedars with lots on fescue underneath. Long forgotten hedge stupms litter the area and would cause major damage to...

    Edge Feathering and bedding areas

Looking for some input. I purchased my property 3 years ago, at the time the timber was being used as cattle pasture. My thoughts were as soon as the cattle are pulled the undergrowth will begin to regrow as it was heavily grazed. Instead all that has happened is the established cool season...

Which State will be the 1st to move it's gun season out???

Kansas made the push two years ago to open rifle season 1 week earlier. I sent letters to the commissioners (they vote on changes to game law), and talked with the kdwp main biologist. He said that kdwp recommended to keep it status quo, but he said politics and personal agendas are the...

Biggest changes you're making - last year to this year??

I guess im going the other direction than some of you this year. In the last several years I have cut down on the numbers of farms I hunt, and my sucess has increased as well. I always figured the more places I had to hunt the better, but there seems to be a point of diminishing returns. As I...

    Native Warm Season Grass

There are some small winter broadleafs starting to show up, and just want the best establishment I can get. It is pretty clean overall though, I think I hit it 3 times last year with RU. I talked to John at Praire Seed Farms and he said it would be fine at 4oz per acre with Panoramic or...

    Native Warm Season Grass

I no-tilled a native mix into bean stubble in early Feb., my mix contains Little Blue, Big Blue, CIR, Indian Grass, and then some forbs. Can I put a light dose of panoramic or plateau say 2oz-4oz an acre and then mix a dose of roundup in? Just not sure how much I can get away with on the...

    Head shot broadheads?

Another thing worth mentioning on Magnus, the have a great warranty. If you bend or break their head, just email them a picture and they ship you a brand new head-No Matter What!! I broke one last year, here was their response: All you have to do is email me a picture of the broadhead or...

    Got My 224" Mount Back!!!

The form is actually a wall pedestal that he modified by adding foam to the back then carving it down to what he wanted. It is probably 30% to 40% larger now then how the form came. The mount turned out so much better than I ever hoped!

    Got My 224" Mount Back!!!

Taxidermy Work was done by Bruce Jaminson "The Outdoors Indoors Taxidermy and Archery" Pittsburg, KS - All of his work is top notch! Thanks for looking, its been a fun ride! Tell me about it!! That dang bling I was sitting in was like a sauna, and I had stripped off my camo earlier. That...

    Got My 224" Mount Back!!!

Finally got my mount back, shot the buck in September. I kept the horns until the Taxi was ready, only took him three weeks once I dropped them off, and I couldn't be happier! I did a pedestal mount(base not done yet), the detail is amazing! Now I just have to find the right place to put him...

    First Kill for my Nephew

Thanks for the comments, I'll have to show him the page. When the deer came out, they were a little far out for his ability, so I let them work closer. When I told him to get the gun up and move slow that poor kid got so excited, i didn't think I was ever going to get him to calm down enough to...

    First Kill for my Nephew

Took him during regular firearms season, and he managed to shave a few belly hairs off a doe at 60 yards. Finally got another chance to take him out on the closing evening of late doe season here in Kansas, and he made a great shot on a good doe. I'll never forget the first deer I ever...
